But seriously, how is this even possible.
"Anyone seen Carles. He is always so quiet. He comes in every morning, and leaves at the end of the day without saying so much as a word to anyone. Sometimes it's like he's not even here..."

I feel like I’ve thought about this scenario before... basically have to time things perfectly. Need to have a place that has a large operation with an HR department that isn’t familiar with the positions direct supervisors. And you would have to time it right, like when you first start the job so no one knows who you are or misses you

Only happens in govt work.

Imagine if it was straight salary with no time card keeping. It would be a pain in the arse to drive there twice a day.

Ole baw probably had a cubicle in the back among stacks of old files. As more and more records were digitized, he had less work coming across his desk. He eventually asked himself, "why the frick am I even here?" And he was right.

How unimportant must a job be that it can go undone for 10 years and no one noticed
And paid him 75 for the job?
The guy who makes 7.25 to scrub toilets at McDonald’s couldn’t get away with missing work for more than a couple days, and this dude did it for 10 years. I’d say that’s not a useful position

With all the large corporations with worldwide offices and field employees, there are probably 17853 few people getting free paychecks.

This is Walt. He wasn't skipping out of work, he was serving time for his 6th DWI.

he didn't show up for work for 10 years, how did his colleagues even know who he was?

This article is very misleading.
This gentleman was a devoted public servant in charge of Quality Assurance for his Department. He was able to address Quality Assurance concerns not only from his office desk, but, also from just about anywhere.

Give this man credit. And if you are going to blame anyone, blame his supervisor.

How you gonna reprimand the guy when none of his superiors caught on for TEN (10) years? TEN YEARS That is an abysmal failure in management.

His team did all the work. Its archival. There's an infinite amount to do.
I find it interesting that the penalty is no govt job for 9 years. They are letting him back in 10 years!!
I wonder how he used the time.
