Matthew Hawkins calls it a "no-brainer."
"Take a semester off school to save my dad's life? It's nothing, you know," he said. "It's like, I can do that. I'm glad I did it."
quote:
At a ceremony Friday celebrating Hawkins' donation and the recovery of him and his stepfather, Whataburger awarded Hawkins a gift basket of orange and white goodies and free Whataburger for a year.
quote:
"He said something that stuck with me -- that I have end-stage liver disease. End-stage means there's a clock ticking, and when that clock stops, one of two things (happen): You're no longer here, or you need a liver," Rogers said, fighting back tears. "And without him, I would be in a very different spot."
Rogers' mother died of liver disease last year.
"He's been there my entire life. He's done everything for me," Hawkins said. "So I at least owe him to do what I can, at least try. See if I could save his life, you know."

Wouldn't eating all that fat associated with fast food...... be bad for the liver?

Liver alone, cheese mine.

Are they doing colon transplants yet? Because after a year of Whataburger he'll be ready.

How is he alive without a liver?

Both parents had liver disease? Either that coupled partied their asses off, or that guy's genetics are going to make him wish he'd have hung onto that thing.

wonder if there is more to this story or just an unfortunate coincidence.

Didn't say it was his liver
Probably a kidney

My old man passed away 13 years ago from liver cancer, and if Whataburger came and offered me that deal right now, I'm telling you, we'd probably have a deal.

Hawkins donated the majority of his liver, which Klair said can regenerate back to its original size, to his stepfather, Bill Rogers.

A year of Whatburger. Go ahead and put that kid on the heart transplant list now.

He probably donated a good chunk of it, not the entire thing. Livers can regenerate although I don't know the details.

If not the fat all the alcohol you are going to be drinking before you eat it will be.

Fast food for a year? I ate fast food last night for the first time in forever and I feel like shite still. That’s disgusting.
