Ironic how such tragedies happen on the same day 18 years apart. God has a plan.

anti inflammatory pill

So this writer didn't even bother to actually look up the med. Which was clearly stated on the bill as Augmentin, not an anti inflammatory. But I'm supposed to take their word on everything else?

probably $1,300/mL and he would need a 10mL shot.

It amazes me that people think they should not speak with the company that pays the bill when considering where to get care. The ER is never the answer unless it's an EMERGENCY.

If he went to the frickin' ER because a cat scratched him, he deserves to be billed $2,300. Go immeditately inside, wash it off with soap and water, rub some alcohol on it, put a band aid on it and go back outside.

If you are REALLY worried, go to Walgreens or Kroger or whatever pharmacy you use and get a tetanus shot.

Geez.

You know that's not his bill right? He pays what's on his EOB, that's an itemized statement of charges, not a bill.

Dont trust doctors blidnly. They give 0 fricks about charges and will automatically schedule you to do every test/lab possible without even questioning if it would be covered by your insurance, what it would cost vs the risk, etc.

US has a terrible system for people who actually pay for their care.

ETA: It's also fun to sit back and wait as you get 28 different bills from different departments over the course of 9 months, and no one can give you an answer of how many more you can expect and when they would end

Patil said even with his insurance, he still owes a little more than $2,500 for the visit. That bill is due at the end of the month.

Wouldn’t that be the deductible?

Nonetheless, $2300 for a level 3 charge is wayyyyyy on the high end.

Yea, ours is nowhere near that, but we don’t itemize in the Peds ER.

That's what the medical field does, they overbill the shite out of everything and let the insurance figure out the actual price they are contracted to oblige.

He deserves it for being a pussy. I remember when I was 16 playing a pickup game of BB I got elbowed so hard in the nose I was waterfalling blood for a good 5 minutes or more. Never went to the doctor.. just went home and lay down and put ice on it. I still have a deviated septum.

The removed charge was for human rabies immune globulin, not a rabies vaccine. They did however, charge him 10 dollars for ONE Augmentin tablet. That’s not an anti-inflammatory.

They charged him $170 for a TDaP dose and $94 to administer the TDaP. If he had come to my pharmacy, his TDaP administration would have been free with his drug insurance or $60 if self-pay.
