Murphy Paul, ladies & gentlemen

When you hear them use the buzz words, “21st century policing” and “best practices”, this is what they are referring too

quote:
BATON ROUGE — Keagan Valdry, a man who was arrested by Baton Rouge Police three years ago for negligent homicide, is now enrolled in the BRPD Academy with the intention of becoming an officer, according to multiple sources who have confirmed the information to UWK. Valdry began his training at the Baton Rouge Police Academy on September 25, 2023.
quote:
Valdry, now 26, was arrested for the accidental shooting death of Quainnesha Paul, 18, on April 14, 2020, according to court records. It was around 1 a.m. when BRPD officers responded to a shooting on Lake Sherwood Ave., just off S. Sherwood Forest Blvd.
quote:
At the scene, officials tell UWK that Valdry initially told officers that Paul had shot herself. However, East Baton Rouge Parish Coroner’s Chief of Investigations, Shane Evans, tells UWK, “The cause of death was a gunshot wound to the upper back. The manner of death was a homicide.” This revelation from the autopsy indicated that Paul did not die from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, leading to Valdry’s subsequent arrest and the filing of one count of negligent homicide against him.
quote:
As of the time of this report, Valdry’s record has not yet been expunged, but the process is underway to have it removed from his history.
The central issue at hand is that despite Valdry’s lack of conviction for negligent homicide, he was arrested for a felony. BRPD policy stipulates that an academy applicant is disqualified if the “applicant has been arrested for a felony or misdemeanor (expunged arrests still apply).”

Wait, I’m confused.
I thought he said he was spending record amounts of legal fees on “bad actors” and that’s why he needs even more money…?
I guess he actually said “I’m hiring bad actors.”
Damn it, I need to listen more closely next time.

Hey Speedy, is he the “sip sip” guy?

Shooters shoot. Marksmanship is what Baton Rouge needs. Welcome, Baw.

Arrested and found guilty? Merely being arrested doesn't make somebody a criminal.

This is what happens when you chase off good cops and lower standards to bring in new ones:

So dude lied how the girl died, coroner said the wound was not self inflicted and he’s a free man?
And now this is the person the public has to trust?
This is the integrity MP holds his officers to? What a complete fricking joke.

Of course.
The police are them, not us.

Be that as it may, the arrest itself disqualifies him from being hired.

BRPD policy specifically states that a felony arrest is an automatic disqualifer. Convictions isn’t required
Another clear example of Murphy violating his own policies.
His policy is, listen to what I say and don’t look at what I actually do

First person I thought of when I saw the last name.

I’m not defending that guy, and PD should always follow their policy, but it does draw attention to a policy that seems odd.
Why would being arrested be cause for exclusion? Not everyone arrested is even charged with a crime. Shouldn’t it be contingent on conviction or guilty plea?

Maybe they didn't write it down so it didn't happen.

I'll bet this guy has family on BRPD pulling strings to get him in.

Is LSP doing the background checks for BRPD applicants?

That would be some serious bullshite and probably a civil rights violation to some extent. There's plenty of situations where someone can be wrongfully arrested, and it gets cleared. Not saying this is the same scenario, but as mentioned, an arrest does not mean guilty.

There’s not a civil right to employment by BRPD. In the field of possible candidates, weeding out those that were arrested may eliminate some otherwise good candidates, but it may also prevent hiring some idiots too.
Are we really having a problem with the exclusion of someone who accidentally shot someone from becoming a police officer with a gun? He can be both not guilty and not officer material at the same time.

He shot and killed someone.
He said it was a suicide, she was shot in the back.
Oj wasn’t guilty either, still a criminal.
