In a lawsuit filed July 23 in U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Louisiana, the franchisee, Midsouth SB III, claims a senior leasing agent representing the mall “grossly inflated” 2016 annual sales figures for several food court tenants, particularly, Villa Pizza, which leases space adjacent to Smashburger’s location.

quote:

Top earner Chick-fil-A was said to have done $2.4 million worth of business that year, while Raising Cane’s did $2 million, Mandarin Express did $1.6 million and Villa Pizza—Smashburger’s neighbor—did $940,000, the lawsuit says.

quote:

In April or May 2018, Midsouth executives began to suspect they had been misled after a conversation with a Villa Pizza representative. They later obtained 2017 revenue figures which were nearly 50% below what had been represented for 2016, the suit says. When they tried to obtain actual 2016 figures, mall representatives refused.

This is a horrible look for the Mall of La. Anyone who walks through there can see how it's devolving into Cortana.

I refuse to believe an organization in Louisiana is corrupt.

I, for one, love being able to go to 15 different shoe stores to see which has the best price.

Smashburger sucks. Gave them a shot at their Corporate location twice and it was terrible food and service. Was not surprised that they shut down.

I'm curious if the Mall is actually guilty here or Smashburger desperately wants out of that lease as well.

The mall of LA has become increasingly urbanite. I haven’t been in there but once a year for the past 3 years. Each time i have been, i realize why it’s been a year since i have been back.

It’s awful and going down hill fast

At least it's a stain on Baton rouge, and not St George.

I work around there and go eat lunch at the food court occasionally. It's not bad during the day. I haven't been at night in a long time though.

This is the normal life cycle of a mall in baton rouge at least.

Both.

Mall of LA sucks and Smashburger probably wants out because the site isn’t very profitable.

The stuff in the pedestrian area isn’t too bad but the mall proper sucks and has sucked for quite a while now.

I figured thats where you were going. Way to turn an article about a lawsuit into something racist.

I was there Saturday. It was packed with back to school kids.

It was fine. The people shitting on the Mall are the same ones who say "culcha will ruin [insert anything new in BR]". Heaven forbid the Mall is about 60/40 black/white which closely matches the city demographics. I guess black folks are supposed to shop and hangout somewhere else b/c OTers don't like being the minority in public.

As for us, we were there to get shoes for daughter and gf. We went to Journeys, Pac Sun, and Vans store. It was refreshing and nice to be able to try on several pairs without guessing based on images on the internet.

I also saw Smashburger was closed. It's hard to compete with Canes and Chick Fil A there, especially with giraffe poon rent(high as frick).
