I can't imagine the looting going on right now.

Unpopular opinion that briefly went through my mind:

Ok, hear me out - looting is bad and a sign of a bad person. But, all these multimillion dollar homes have been evacuated. The owners have gone and everything is likely to burn up. And is likely to be insured so the owners will be repaid. Priceless works of art and jewelry are being lost. Or are they? Idk. These looters are risking their own lives for possible profit. As long as nobody is risking their lives to save the looters, who is the victim?

Only 2 acres in all of 2024?

Only 13 acres as a 5 year average?

Something is fricky about that graphic. I don't trust it at face value.

That is for this time period only, year-to-date. Read the top of the graphic.

Look, I said it went through my mind briefly. But think about it. What doesn’t get looted just burns.

But yeah, general lawlessness wouldn’t just involve saving priceless artifacts. The same thugs who will loot will also kill and rape and who knows what.

That makes more sense. It's still a very misleading graphic and an official agency shouldn't have put that out on the internet.

It really isn't, if you can read.

The internet doesn't read fine print. The government knows this. Put out a very misleading graphic and fall back on "if you read the fine print" is bullshite. I'm done with the topic. Maybe someone else will argue with you about it.

The damn graphic tells you at the very top in bold letters what it is. This is a you problem.

Do you ever look at what you typed before submitting and honestly look at how idiotic these statements are given even the limited info we have to date

Were the November and December fires not considered “wild fires”? Or is chart specific for an area and not all of California? Or for a specific month or time frame?

Wikipedia lists over a million acres for 2024.

Franklin fire in December 2024 was around 4,000 acres. Ventura in November was close to 20,000 acres.

The chart says for ytd thru Jan 11. The others are averages for that time frame

Correct. Traditional or historic fire season there begins to wind down in November. December begins their "rainy" season, which is why the increased activity so far this year is notable.

Wait so now we're blaming climate change and a once in a lifetime historic fire? Damn, guess Karen Bass and Newsome are off the hook
