This a-hole has been in politics for 40 fricking years. He needs to look in the fricking mirror.
Amazing, ain’t it.

Seems like Garrett Graves was right about these two (Landry and Nungesser). We should have all listened and not just thought he was making a political stance.
I did listen. I agreed with him.

Why does the tourism guy have a say in this at all?
frick St. Bernard Parish. Let it wash away.

They sure seem to love lower Caminada Bay. They’ll come just about right to the bank line behind the camp during incoming/high tide.

I don’t understand the reasons for this level of opposition to this move.
- Is it because of hate for Landry and Nungesser and their kind?
- Is it because people truly believe that this project will save them from hurricanes and coastal erosion?
- Is it because some people were counting on jobs and income from the 3 billion dollar spending?
- Is it because people figure the billions will get spent anyway and they want it spent here (whether or not it’s cost effective).
I get resentment for special interest groups controlling government policy. But my resentment level if much worse of those special interests succeed spending 3 billion rather than succeeding in NOT spending 3 billion.

I'm surprised Gordy Dove was on board with shooting this down also especially with GIS Engineering and Sea Level Construction in his back pocket.
These two should be forever memorialized as the worst politicians to ever grace our coast. Gordy Dove's Terrebonne levee system has had terrible effects on the marsh below.
Nungesser's Plaquemines Parish has 50% less land than 30 years ago. so fricking dumb that I could see it all coming.

What is going to happen when the state of Louisiana asks the BP trust to fund the next coastal project? I can tell you they are gonna say no thanks - we tried to fully fund a 3billion dollar one and you spent 600 million of our money on nothing then cancelled the job. We will go ahead and give the remainder of the funds to Texas, Mississippi, Alabama, and Florida.

At the end of the day - weather anyone agrees with the method of coastal restoration that this project envisioned - this is a 3 billion dollar construction project that the Louisiana taxpayer was not spending a single dollar on. Think about the tax revenue from dozens of in state and local businesses providing services and materials to a project of that size. The hundreds of workers staying in local housing - short and long term. Grocery stores, gas stations, shite - even local fishing guides taking people fishing on their weekends off. The loss of tax revenue alone is atrocious.

It’s because Landry and nungesser tanked a gift of 3 billion the state got, at no cost to our taxpayers that was being used on something of bipartisan importance, to curry favor with the dolphin industry and Croatian oyster mafia with absolutely no alternative plan.
The special interests won over the common interests.

My bad. Sorry, St. Bernard. I hope it's just Plaquemines that washes away more than it already is.

Yeah, let's let that corrupt Plaquemines Parish POS make the calls. He's used to screwing over the Federal money backed projects from his post-Katrina days shutting down hurricane protection projects, during active hurricane season no less, until he got what he wanted done in his back yard by the USACE or to protect his buddy's property. Screw that guy, and Landry. If you're gonna shut down that project, at least divert the money to finish the damn Comite Diversion project that Cleo Fields is shutting down. This is why we can't have anything nice, because of politicians holding projects like this hostage until the payments go through to them. Assholes

All of this. Please say it louder for the folks that think that "we" are saving money. The cancellation of this project will cost untold millions in tax revenue for the state and parishes and small towns and villages south of New Orleans. It will also cost north of 600 million dollars if the BP trust decides that they want their money back. It will also cost lost revenue on future projects that this entity will award those projects to other states that don't step on their own dicks when they are awarded a 3 billion dollar construction project. The decision is stupidity personified on so many levels.

Can't divert the money. It does not belong to the state and it is not controlled by the state. It is BP oil spill money that is controlled by a trust. They are allowed to allocate the money (and there is a good bit more still available) to any coastal project in a gulf state that they see fit. Louisiana spent 600 million of the 3 billion allocated to this specific project and has now rejected the rest. The trust now controlls the remaining 2.4 billion and they can spend it how they see fit on any coastal project from Texas to Florida.

I have zero knowledge of the Diversion. Can anyone who knows more tell me if Nungesser is correct that the Diversion would basically destroying Barataria Bay, and that there are solutions - barrier islands, ridges and berms - that are ready to roll right now?
I'm certainly not an expert but coastal erosion is the result of the levees on the Mississippi and Atchafalaya rivers. SO to reverse the damage the only real long term solution is to get that soil building river water back to the coastal areas.
So you either take down the levees or build diversion canals of pipelines but either way that fresh water will either damage or wipe out the oyster beds, the fisheries and those species, such as the dolphins.
I would imagine all coastal marine biologists have always known this and told the politicians this many times.
You can use river water to bring new soil or spend probably trillions hauling thousands and thousand (probably millions) of barges full of someone else's dirt.
Pretty simple really.
