Two years after his retirement, in May 1964, Governor John J. McKeithen came to his office hoping that Middleton would accept a job on a commission that he was forming. The governor was wanting to ease the state's growing racial tensions by creating a biracial commission composed of 21 blacks and 21 whites.
The governor needed a chairman who would command a tremendous amount of respect, and his choice was Middleton. Middleton said he would do it for a year, beginning in 1965, but as had often happened in the past, the year stretched into five, and it wasn't until 1970 when the commission had reached its goals and was disbanded that Middleton was freed from this duty.Middleton's black counterpart on the commission was Dr. Albert Dent, president of Dillard University in New Orleans, and the directors chosen to head the staff of this Commission on Human Relations, Rights, and Responsibilities were white attorney John Martzell and black attorney Jesse N. Stone.
Some of the potential trouble spots where the commission was able to have a positive effect included the towns of Ferriday and Opelousas, and the commission helped to open the ranks of the Louisiana State Police to qualified blacks.

William T. Sherman Library.
LSU should 100% something named after Sherman, the fact that LSU doesn’t runs against all “history not hate” people’s argument

I think it's pretty obvious that neither the black students or the LSU leadership actually knew what Troy Middleton actually stood for.
It seems like people think it is impossible for people to evolve and improve their viewpoints over time.
This world we live in today is a real hellhole.

It has been part of the long term master plan since I was at LSU almost 20 years ago.
A new library is going to be expensive, though.

I thought they had decided a few years ago to have it torn down. Or was that just a proposal?

So our library is named after one of the most decorated officers in American History. He was a wartime hero in WW1 and WW2. We are now getting rid of his name due to racial justice. What a world we are creating.

There was a push a couple of years ago to name the parade grounds after him.

Good job now racism is eliminated and black men will stop abandoning the mothers of their children
Unfortuantely, the demands will never stop and the majority of black men will never step up to be proper fathers and husbands as they should. Meanwhile, all this bowing down does is create a toxic environment in which blacks, especially black women, walk around with a chip on their shoulder- their own racist attitude to whites and others is terrible!

We called it the library, period. Maybe officially Middleton but not one ever said tgat. Kirby Smith was a confederate General.. What else needs to be changed?

As op have said... it was planned to be taken down and turned back into green space ....
It is a mess and new library have more modern aspects .....
They have the original one that is very attractive inside and out for history and were planning on something new over by where they moved the jet...?????
Why rename a thing that is a disaster ...just tear it down with Kirby!!!

I'm pretty confident in saying the LSU Greek system will be gone within three years.

Dude, people need to be weaned off of glory holes. This has to be slow process to give these people time to find alternative places where they can stick their cocks through holes or gobble up some cock without being judged.

Wrong building. Glory Holes are across the quad in Coates Hall.
Posted on 6/11/20 at 5:25 pm to TN Bhoy
Will the glory holes be renamed as well?
Posted on 6/11/20 at 5:26 pm to TN Bhoy
Has a new name been proposed? Just asking.
