What incidents, SPECIFICALLY? And what could the President have done differently, SPECIFICALLY?

From what I've read reports were made to Campus officials on Sept 12 and Oct 5th about students having racial slurs directed towards them on campus. After which online diversity training was made mandatory...which I felt was an appropriate response. Once again in the quote you used I said "accusations" Im not on the board reviewing the incidents and I agree that many of these incidents have been taken out of proportion.

My point in responding was simply to give my understanding what the students who met at LSU were trying to accomplish and to point out that people have different sets of experiences. Again, everyone has a right to feel safe while pursuing their education, and warranted or not, they have a right to pursue recourse if they feel that the university is not accomplishing that.

3 incidents:

1) To the SGA president while he was off campus and by a white man in a truck as it drove by

2) To a group of AAs who were performing a homecoming skit on school grounds. This person was found and expelled

3) The swastika... directed at Jews

False.

And what could the President have done differently?

Even though all the incidents at Mizzou have been proven lies or no one else was around to witness it Mizzou is making headway. Mizzou is being compared to Yale now, moving on up. LSU is wanting to tag along, no shame.

I don't believe they were the ones who "created" the racial tension.

Butler is wearing a shirt supporting a known cop killer and bank robber who has ruined multiple white lives and is an entitled lying prick. Yes someone may have shouted the N-Word from a truck off campus, but how is that the President's responsibility? The swastika was likely made by a black guy who hated whites and Jews. They say they feel threatened, but there's absolutely no details. People are just taking their word for it, but all evidence suggests Mizzou is a progressive campus.

right to feel comfortable and safe while pursuing an education. So if those student's have an issue they have a right to speak out against it...even if it then makes others uncomfortable in the process.

Oh, so where's their so-called "right" to not feel uncomfortable? What if a hardcore Muslim is not comfortable with women being in the classroom? What if a straight guy feels uncomfortable with a gay guy thinking he's good looking? What if a transgender person gets offended in a biology class when the teacher says that the XY chromosome indicates male gender? What if a fundamentalist Christian is offended in a history classroom when the professor insists the world is over 6,000 years old?

Comfort is 100% relative to an individual. I hate to tell you, buddy, but you have absolutely NO right to comfort. If this were a right, then James Meredith would have never stepped foot on Ole Miss' campus, nor would pretty much any civil right have happened if everyone had a right to comfort. And please point out a police report where all these black people are assaulted on the way back to their cars. There is no evidence of any lack of safety on that campus, and you certainly have no right to comfort.

What about the comfort of those who now feel unsafe and uncomfortable?

As in Ben Martin?? Are you fricking serious? That a-hole wouldn't let me take my exam early so I could go see my brother graduate from college and then tried to tank my grade after I fought him on it, but he let these shitheaps have a take home test to go support some bogus cause occurring 100s of miles away?

frick that guy dry with a goddamn hair brush.

If its there they would be the ones feeling it. Speaking up about it is only a problem because it burdens those who don't feel it

The better way to handle it, though, is to go through the channels in place; namely: the SGA President should demand an audience with the Dean/Chancellor and the Executive Committee of the University System. The SGA President has that kind of ability. It's one of his responsibilities.

Instead, all indications show he took to Twitter with an unsubstantiated story about a racial epithet thrown his way. I don't doubt it happened. I don't doubt that Mizzou has had several instances of racial tension between students. But I don't see how the solution is to try to get the President of the University System fired and I don't see why this is something that wasn't handled by the school, including the students, through the proper means. Whining and crying is not how things should be done in the adult world. If there is an issue, you address it head on. You don't go cry to the media about it (and then kick the media out of public spaces to create a fricking Safe Space for you to feel "comfortable").

The Missouri protests are a farce and are the laughing stock of the country right now, or would be if people weren't so scared that this is what the country is turning into. To support these protests is to support ignorance, blind anger, and mob mentality.

quote:

We all have different experiences but EVERYONE has a right to feel comfortable and safe while pursuing an education
Not to be a dick, but no they don't. They have a right to speak their minds, but this is the problem with the US right now. You have no right to feel "comfortable." There is nothing in the books that gives that right to you because it is fricking impossible. How can I determine what does or does not make you comfortable? It would lead to chaos. You have the right to speak about how you want to feel comfortable on campus, but you pay to be there. If you don't feel comfortable, you can pay to be somewhere else.

That said, acknowledging and working through racism is a noble goal, which is why it shouldn't be handled so ignobly.
