From what I've read reports were made to Campus officials on Sept 12 and Oct 5th about students having racial slurs directed towards them on campus. After which online diversity training was made mandatory...which I felt was an appropriate response. Once again in the quote you used I said "accusations" Im not on the board reviewing the incidents and I agree that many of these incidents have been taken out of proportion.

My point in responding was simply to give my understanding what the students who met at LSU were trying to accomplish and to point out that people have different sets of experiences. Again, everyone has a right to feel safe while pursuing their education, and warranted or not, they have a right to pursue recourse if they feel that the university is not accomplishing that.

I don't believe they were the ones who "created" the racial tension. If its there they would be the ones feeling it. Speaking up about it is only a problem because it burdens those who don't feel it.

I believe the president stepped down due to pressure from the accusations that the school did not adequately handle reports of racially charged incidents on campus....An earlier commenter described an issue with not being contact back by a black fraternity. While at LSU I experienced being stopped by LSUPD while jogging around the lakes bc "a report was made of a suspicious black man running buy the sorority houses". Are these too events comparable? Not hardly...I don't know if white students were frequently stopped on campus and asked to see their student ID to verify they went there but I know I was.

We all have different experiences but EVERYONE has a right to feel comfortable and safe while pursuing an education. So if those student's have an issue they have a right to speak out against it...even if it then makes others uncomfortable in the process.

I will start by saying I was confused by the purpose of this event when I heard there would be a "rally" at LSU. I don't generally think of these types of events as effective or anything more than just assembling just to assemble, but I reached out to some collegiate's and was informed that it was just a group of students congregating in order to stand together in solidarity and prayer for the events going on at MU. It was not a march or claim of racial injustice at LSU. I think it is safe to say that as fellow blacks at a PWI they may have some commonalities so showing reverence for the events going on at MU is reasonable.

Now to the responses of this thread...I think they were much more indicative of "group think" than anything shown in the picture. Is it really ok to blanketly deny jobs based on having different political or social stances regardless of qualification? Are you truly comfortable with the assertion that someone should drive around campus in pick up trucks and assault students with water balloons full of piss? Is it really reasonable to assume that none of these COLLEGE STUDENTS are fellow engineering or business majors, and regardless of their current station in life their participation in this even is a testament that they wont go on to be productive members of society? Those are some of the things that were said in this thread.

Anyone who responded you are completely entitled to your opinions and I accept that your experiences in life are valid. Other peoples experiences are valid as well. I LOVE LSU but I'm sure my college experience was different from many of yours, some better some worse. These students didn't hurt anyone or deter anyones education by meeting and if students from MU see this picture and find comfort from others standing with them and praying they find resolution then it may have been worth the 10 minutes of their time. I believe there is a follow on event taking place on Monday to continue the discussion of racial tension in the college setting. Hopefully this provided a little clarification on what the students attempted to accomplish with their "rally" and maybe a few of you who posted will be able to attend the event and share you opinions there.
