i used to be able to walk back to my apartment thru the CEBA lot. I would take out my keys and act like i was looking for my car so people would follow me thinking they would get a spot

We used to park in the stadium lot. It would fill up unless you had early classes but you could usually find a spot across the street or across from the old Box.

Gotta be the softest freshman class of all time. Imagine being an adult in college and calling your parents crying because you can’t find a freaking parking space.
Parking wars are a universal part of the college experience and have been for decades now. Plan accordingly.

Always this way at the start of a semester. Park a little further away, get there earlier. Can't blame them for overselling, lot would be half empty and people would complain about prices.

I lived on S Brightside. Had a car but rode a mountain bike to class. Bus when it was pouring. Very rarely drove to campus.

i used to get a spot in that lot every morning without a problem and walk right up the hill to the quad. Once they broke ground on the AA building it became a shite show.

I graduated in the early ‘90s and it was the exact same way back then. As the others say, it will smooth out after a couple of weeks and she’ll get set in her routine as well. You are rarely able to park outside of the building your class is within.
Honestly, this is a part of the college education….you don’t call your parent crying every time you meet an obstacle in life. Instead, you figure out a way to deal with it.
Incidentally, the first time she leaves with her car tire touching a white line in the parking lot, she will receive a parking ticket. She will take pictures with her phone, send it to you, and call crying again. Your response should simply be “handle it.”

Have you seen pictures of the incoming class?

Back in my day, I had to walk 15 miles in the snow to get to campus.
I understand that's still an option.

They've been doing this for a long time. I dont think they are trying to hide it, and frankly its probably a good thing. By the second week it will be fine, by the 3rd week there will be rows of empty parking spaces all day... Your alternative is to build a sea of unused parking or restrict the number of parking passes for people to never be able to buy them. Both are bad options.
If anything they could probably do a better job of trying to notify students at the beginning of the year and encourage carpooling.

LSU has a parking app. It's called ParkZen and provides real time data on open spots.
My daughter used it for her last year at LSU. She still had to be on campus ~45 minutes before class.

Every university does this. Not one sells only what spaces they have. If you show up 15 mins before class you are screwed on parking.
That’s why I loved living just off campus at MSU. 1/4 mi walk from my door to the front entrance of McCool hall. Was good for the waistline too. I had a west side pass for parking, but that was only for hard rain and evening exams.

I never got a parking pass after sophomore year. I just parked in the CEBA lot and if I got less than like 4 tickets in a year or whatever I came out ahead.
It worked. I think I got 2 or 3 tickets in 2 years parking without a pass in CEBA every day.

Yep, easy walk up the hill and to class

I'm sorry but LSU is looking sloppy right now.
For all the folks calling this girl soft, maybe she shouldn't be crying, but LSU is not being run correctly and not living up to flagship status.
If they oversold parking passes, shame on them. Come clean and admit it.
Define “overselling” parking passes.
Or to put it another way, what would be the “correct” amount of parking passes to sell?
Should every student with a commuter pass be able to park on campus at the same time? If that were the case, you’d have empty parking spaces all over the place even during peak hours because every single student with a commuter pass isn’t on campus at the same time.
Do you think they should take every student’s class schedule into account? E.g. only allotting x passes to kids who have M/W/F classes between 8 and 10 AM? What about class location? If someone’s classes are all near the North side of campus but the only projected parking availability at those times is on the south side of campus, should the student be denied a pass?
This is silly. A commuter pass is not a guarantee that there will be parking available in the lot of your choice, at the time of your choice. At the beginning of every single fall semester, a bunch of incoming freshmen realize that parking on campus is a PITA. And every year, students figure it out eventually. Some will leave earlier. Some will walk or ride bikes. Some will ride the bus. Some will carpool. Some will park farther away when they figure out that their ideal lot fills up early. None of this is new. It’s been happening for at least 15-20 years.
LSU needs more parking, no doubt. But all of this “omg LSU looks so bad and needs to come clean about overselling parking passes” talk is pointless without any further context other than.. the same shite that happens every year. The difference today has as much to do with helicopter parents on social media as it does with LSU.

It's the first week of school. This shite is nothing new and was happening for decades. Tell your daughter to suck it up and that she will have to park further away and walk the first week or two. More spaces will open up later.

My last 2 years my first class always started at 7:30 or 8:30 am. Guess what, parking was not only easy, but I would usually get a great spot.
