In response to the death of a student who pledged a fraternity last fall, LSU is recommending widespread changes to the Greek Life system including prohibiting hard alcohol at all parties, putting guest limits on parties, adding adult supervision to pledge events and giving amnesty to students who report medical emergencies.

One of the other major changes — and one that topped the wish list for the parents of Max Gruver — will be increased transparency about what goes on at the fraternity and sorority houses. LSU will maintain a website that allows the public to see which organizations have received a disciplinary sanction for a period of five years. The site is expected to also give details about the incident that led to the infraction, said Rob Stuart, a Baton Rouge businessman and LSU alumnus who led the task force.

Other recommendations in the report included requiring all fraternity houses to have a house manager, also sometimes called a "house mom," limit pledge activities to two months, require all fraternity tailgating to be housed at the individual fraternity houses — rather than the campus Parade Grounds where it's traditionally been hosted — and ban alcohol from all pledging and new member activities.
