Why don't we change the name of the thread to "How Ben Wynn changed fraternitys"

I love how the tale gets larger as time goes by. It's like an LSU game of telephone. The guy chugged a whole 5th of everclear, which 2 other people did that night as well. He then went to Murphy's and drank there. It was the speed at which he drank the everclear that got him. Other people drank just as much as he did that night, just not as fast. Anyone who's drank everclear knows that it takes a while to kick in, but when it does....you get shitty. He put too much alcohol in his system too fast and it poisoned him. There was no coke or ungodly number of shots/pitchers. He wasn't forced to drink that, he just wanted to get smashed. The fact that he was in a fraternity just gave everyone someone to blame.

I only know what I read off of the police report. The year I was on IFC they had us all read a copy of it.

noone made it sound like it was the fraternities fault. It was easy to pin it on them. We all noted that he was not forced to drink anything that he partied himself.

The one guy actually read the police report. I stated what I was told when asking alums when I was there. We didn't have any 90's alums stay active so we didn't know a ton about it but it affected us also seeing that it was brought up all the time.

We had to give up our charter during Nam

LSU gave us the boot right before then due to an unfortunate misunderstanding between a young southern deb and about twenty of our guys at a party in the house one night, after nineteen she had sloots remorse(the next day,) lost it again in the '80's due to some unfortunate initiation casualties, then once more in the '80's, this time national pulled the plug on us for a couple of years

One of our chapters had a house mother that called a girl out on her remorse. She was trying to say rape and got in her face on how she wanted it. She got to take another walk of shame.

ETA: As far as the police report goes, I'm not saying it was accurate. If someone here was present that night and has more to say then great.

That woman was awesome! A lot of women take that story the wrong way, but they have never been falsely accused of rape either. It was nice to see that shite get shut down. These girls go wild and out when they get there wanting dick and they go where there is a hundred miles of it.

Honestly.. I feel like chugging a fifth of everclear is more dangerous than drinking jäger pitchers and a little blow.

The fraternity has been shut temporarily by its national organization.

A university official who spoke on the condition of anonymity said Sigma Alpha Epsilon was probably finished at the university. ''I'd be very surprised if they reopen,'' the official said.

HA

We showed them!

My fraternity at LSU (Theta Xi) was huge back in the 70s and 80s. They got kicked off in the mid 90s and came back in '97 or '98. When I was there (mid 00s), we had about 50-60 actives. Last I've heard, they now have about 100-110 members. I have no idea what type of guys though. Having 100 stand up guys is different than having 100 guys via bidding anyone who walks through the front door. I lost touch with the chapter after I graduated so I'm not very privy to that type of info anymore.

Yeah, 1997 was probably at the tail end of what remaining innocence/naivety we had as a nation.
