Theta Xi was pretty fricking solid before their death sentence in the 90s.

I live next door to their "off-campus" frat house That was the only time I've ever seen a party get busted by the cops before 7:00pm

I always liked the look of their house on Dalrymple. A little dumpy but it had kind of a European feel to it. Is it even still standing?

that's the thing. whenever I told someone I was a Theta Xi, they would ask "oh, do you guys have a house?" I'd say, "yeah, it's next door to KA". Then they would say, "Oh yeah, I know the house now."

I'll admit that many of my fraternity brothers had "little brother syndrome" with KA

As I remember it Theta Xi and KA were more or less equals. Of course I just had two tiers, "good" and "bad"

My main criteria: did you pull decent talent at your exchanges? if so, you're "good".

It's interesting to see the changes. Taxi was terrible when I was there. They weren't even worth hating because they were irrelevant.

don't know what it's like now, but when I was there, there were three brackets for every type of competition, purple, gold, and white, KA, Sigs, TX, crotches, SAE, were always in the top bracket, seems like there were one or maybe two more, Acacia maybe?

You sound like you were there even before me (early 80s)

Fiji were respectable when I got there. Lambda Chi was in the midst of a HUGE upswing. SAE was in decline. I never heard anything good about Acacia; besides their house was way the hell out in BFE (relatively).

If I remember correctly, there was another incident involving Theta Xi back in the 70's where a bunch of pledges were crossing River Road blindfolded . There were non-blindfolded guys in the front and back of the line but there was nobody in the middle. Car came down the road and they couldn't get all the pledges off the road in time and one guy got run over and killed.

I think it was Fiji in the top bracket and not Acacia, and their house was over there

ETA: As far as the police report goes, I'm not saying it was accurate. If someone here was present that night and has more to say then great.

A good friend of mine's brother was a sophomore SAE active when the Wynne incident went down. He has told us a couple of times that he feels they did some things that made it impossible not to have SAE shoulder some blame although it's been years since I've talked to him about it. I believe he claimed they pushed several pledges back to the house in shopping carts after they were passed out.

There was definitely a culture and I guess you could say the fault would be on them for that. Nobody made this kid drink, got to the house, pass out, and die.

Had to funnel it. There was no way his bac could've been achieved otherwise.

In the 70's I was told that all fraternities refused to take anybody Jewish as a favor to ZBT the Jewish frat. ZBT refused to take anybody from North of Memphis.

I was a few years after that, but we had some Jewish guys

It was done strictly on membership #'s, so it fluctuated some. The middle bracket was usually the most competitive because they took it more seriously. When we got bigger and moved up into the top bracket, we actually did better. Sigma Chi were the only other chapter in that bracket who gave a shite about athletics.
