Couldn't have cared less about making friends. I joined a frat to go to grubs and parties with girls for four years.

You got that right. So did I.

Apparently not. If they were like normal people, they wouldn't have to join a frat to make friends.

Ya'll are some sad, miserable motherfrickers.

Fraternities are CO-OPS. A group of people pool their money to buy room, board and social activities.

Fraternities don't actually cost much money. The room is cheaper, the meal plan is cheaper and the social activities are a good value.

GDIs with the "buying friends" line are some of the saddest people on the planet.

Are fraternities any good for anything other than organized drinking?

How can they even enforce this? What's the definition of "tailgating" anyway? Can't they just do it and say they aren't tailgating? Does everyone have to leave the house on gameday? This is stupid.

've setup, or been involved in a tailgate, that has been on the Parade Ground, or adjacent since 2005.

The trash on the Parade Ground was from the fraternity tailgates.

This.

We moved off the parade grounds 2 years ago for the sole reason of getting away from the fraternities. Their tailgates have gotten ridiculously trashy over just the last 5-10 years. I really don't feel bad for them. They did this to themselves over the course of a few years.

This cannot be overstated. That aging fratstar may have been a party animal in his day, but he's just as appalled as anyone else at trashed public spaces on campus, to say nothing of dead pledges, overdoses in chapter houses, etc. It makes him much less likely to go to bat for the current crop of actives.

There absolutely are forces that have it in for the Greek system, both in and outside the university. But the Greek system ends up being its own worst enemy in a lot of cases. a few MIP charges or some mild hazing is one thing. It's awfully hard to stand up for some of the shite that has gone on recently. After what went on at Sigma Chi, if I was one of their alums I'd have a hard time ever wanting to associate myself with them again, much less give of my time and money.

Seriously. Why not let them hire them cracked heads from Landmark?

Seriously? Landmark drug tests us like all the time and it’s really hard to get clean pee these days

Soo.... Just find somewhere outside the parade grounds to tailgate. Pretty easy to get around.

This is the issue, which is personal with me.

Last year, when the frats were run off of the parade grounds, several of them moved to the area behind U High, by the Alumni Hotel and across from the last group of frat houses close to University Lake. That area has been where we have tailgated for the last 20 years, and it has always been a nice, quiet tailgating spot for lots of families, with shade trees, open grass where their kids can throw the ball, etc.

After being kicked off the parade grounds last year, frats took over the fields and open grass with huge tents and canopies, blaring DJ'ed "music" (mostly vulgar rap), crowds of obnoxious frat bros and drunken trashy sorors, etc. Big change.

This year it has been "back to normal", but I can see this going bad for the next game.

There were still issues this year-- even with them supposedly being in their houses, you still have the frats on Dalrymple across from U High and the Law School setting up shop across the street from their houses, on the U High front lawn and under the oaks by the Law School.... trash everywhere and drunks puking or passed out against trees. Like the parade grounds, a disgrace to have to walk through that crap to and from the game.

Here’s one, being in a frat, was cheap.

Prisoner of the house? WTF does that mean?

Fraternities were forced onto the parade grounds from the houses. They did not want to be there. Nothing good comes from that many young Greek members in a small space.

They were then forced back to the houses, now forced into limbo.

When I went to summer school I was stunned at how much better the cafeteria food was for a similar price. I loved my fraternity experience but in a lot of ways it was like living in a flophouse.

LSU Admin is idiotic if they think this will curb partying/drinking.

They’ll have huge off campus house parties and the majority of the students won’t come to campus due to 1) the hassle 2) surge Uber pricing/lack of transportation 3) being wasted

This will only continue to hurt attendance issues

That all depends on the individuals charged with certain tasks, do they give a shite and are they competent, or not?

It's not about that, it's about getting the University off the hook form a liability and PR standpoint. If an independent dies off campus, it's tragic. If a member of a university-sanctioned organization dies on campus, it's tragic and potentially costs LSU a shite ton of money.

When you live at the house, thats your home. People coming in every night drunk as shite waking people up with people from the bar. Meal plan has you going there to eat all the time.

My buddies were mostly all in Sigma Nu and they had to live 1 semester in the house. During that semester, Fall 2001 I think, they called me and other friends nonstop to get away from the house. Their frat bordered on an animal house atmosphere though so maybe its different for other groups.
