South stadium and highland. But it’s not called that on any LSU map or google map so you won’t find it. No clue who named it “Unity” because it’s anything but. It’s more segregated than all the other places on campus.

The LSU Black Student Union gave it that name

quote:

The purpose of the Black Student Union shall be to represent the interest of the Black student populace at all times emphasizing political, community, social, and educational concerns while promoting the general welfare of the Black student populace; by fostering communications between the Black Student Union and the university, and to provide a central agency through which Black students may voice their opinion and gain support on any and all matters. The Black Student Union will serve as the umbrella organization to the Black student organizations on the LSU campus.

We are excited to continue working closely with the chapter on scholarships, events, mentorship, and more opportunities that will empower and promote success for all of our members’ futures.
We are truly grateful for this partnership and for the amazing community that has come together behind the production of this tailgate. We can’t wait to celebrate with you all on September 20th!

- Membership: Encourage your student, new or old, to join BSU! ($30/year via Cheddar Up).
- Amazon Registry: Donate supplies directly — all items ship straight to LSU.
- Cash App Donations: Contribute a monetary gift (with or without membership).
- Volunteer: Sign up through our SignUpGenius to help us put on a successful event.

I have some news for you if you think they’re gonna arrest people for smoking weed

They’ll get a ticket and sent on their way.

Making sure I got this right..

this largely black space, Unity Field, which promotes exactly the opposite of what the name implies.. has gotten too ratchet and now needs to be reeled in?

As an aside... How is this still a thing in 2025? Is there a white student union that excludes all other races? Equality and all

That’s hysterical, a group of people can randomly name a place on campus and it sticks with the administration.

The same admin can arbitrarily remove an LSU decorated name “Middleton” under false pretenses. You can’t make this up!

That’s gonna be interesting, especially with the Ag Center lots as free parking. Hopefully they close Highland at Parker and make the folks parking at the Ag Center access those lots from the lake side. If they close it at Highland/South Stadium it’s gonna be a clusterfrick as people go down South Stadium to Lakeshore/Parker, come back up Parker, and then cross back over Highland to get wherever they were trying to go.

Not to mention the mess of people trying to turn around on Chimes coming from the North side.

Probably worth it in the long run, just seems like it’ll be a shite show at first.

Our school group tail gated there for years and it only got like this during homecoming. Other than that it was basically like any other plot of grass on campus that had tailgates on it. As recently as 2016 at least. I never went down there and started tailgating at the Indian mounds afterwards.

Among the changes, interim LSU President Matt Lee announced the closure of Unity Field, where the majority of the school's Black Greek life tailgates. Officials are currently fencing off the field —located by the intersection of Highland Road and South Stadium Drive — to the public.

Lee said that law enforcement had traced two recent shootings back to the tailgating spot. He also said a specific student organization, which he declined to name, was responsible for drawing large crowds in the area. He added the group did not submit an application to hold gameday events, and was currently undergoing a disciplinary process.

"We believe most of the problems that we've experienced in the prior weeks are related to this well defined place," he said during the press conference. "This isn't about race, this is about place."

Who is going to "Unity Field" next game and ask somebody "Excuse me, can you direct me to the LSU White Student Union?"

Won't the Unity Field group just find another spot to tailgate or is anyone really thinking that this will discourage them from attending?

How much of Highland road are we talking about? If Highland will be closed from gate to gate, traffic is going to get much worse, much earlier.

I was leaving the game mid second quarter. Now I'm gonna have to leave after the national anthem.
