Patrick F. Taylor/College of Engineering Expansion Every time we do work on campus we get hammered on the 'Campus Standards'...Terracotta Tile / Yellow Conrete look. That being said, on the outskirts of campus they tend to be able to get away from the core arch. standards of LSU
What does getting hammered by the standards mean?
And the tile is a Ludowici tile with a special LSU blend and better than a 50 year life span so for the money it's worth it and it looks great.

Starting the ChemE building in Oct/nov
Completion date? Trying to figure out if either one of my boys will get use of the new building my company paid so much into. Knowing what I do about construction in Louisiana in general, especially campus construction, I'm doubtful.

The ChemE addition will be done in 12-18 months.

Really? That's awesome if it happens that way!

I really hope they didn't go with that terrible exterior design.
Between that and the new BEC, the south side of campus is going to be hideous. I really wish they'd at least compliment the older parts of campus.

I prefer that look to what they did with the new business building. I don't see why we can't have nice things with a traditional LSU exterior.

call me crazy but i like some of the buildings to have different looks. the core of the university is still the same, but i think the business school and others have a distinction that can be different.
Not every building on every campus is the same. I've been to places like Stanford, Duke, and most of the SEC schools. Not all their buildings look the same or have the same likeness.

I think everyone will be pleased with the design. You'll know it's a new building, but will still resemble the old campus...much moreso than the Business Complex.

It will be done in roughly a year. It will be kept pretty empty until all of ceba is done. The parts of ceba under reconst. will overflow into the ChemE building.

It's an awesome feeling.
I'm all for improvements, but when I go back, it doesn't feel like the same school sometimes. So many changes since I graduated a few years ago. I think that's why people cling to CEBA. That's what it was when we were there. That's the LSU we remember. Changes are great, and I'm all for them, but it's also weird to see the buildings you spent countless hours in gone or completely changed.

I can empathize with that. At least the main part of campus will always stay intact.
There are some buildings that need to be demo'd and redone imo.

Bastardizing the original concept by making the architect integrate more traditional elements. Sometimes it's needed, sometimes it's a bad decision.

thanks for letting us know. All I had heard was that whoever proposed the death star-looking renderings lost the bid and that we were going in a different direction. Thank God
the new renderings look fantastic
this could be without question the best job we've ever done with a major construction project, assuming it looks just like the renderings above. Damn I still have sour grapes over how they handled the new business school

Bid on Renovations and Expansion went out February 18, 2014.
that was for the general contractor - MAPP/Skansta(sp?) was the awarded bidder
Good luck to that team getting local subcontractors to bid the project, MAPP has burnt a lot of bridges around town

You're actually one of the 3-4 posters that came to mind when I found these pictures
Design wise, this rendering looks very similar to the new Emerging Technology Center close to sorority row. I'm not sure if LSU used the same firm or not.

Yeah, I feel like there's a handful of us that get the strangest boner when LSU nails a construction project on the head.
And technology center is a perfect example of what all of our future projects should emulate. I don't understand why LSU has to make it so difficult, but they've nailed the new dorms and the engineering facility. maybe they've seen the light... I hope.
Not sure if I told you, but I overheard some Middleton employee blasting joes and talking about our beautiful library's future. He said we don't have the finances to build an entirely new library, so they're just going to gut Middleton. Unfortunately they also have no plans to make Midd more aesthetically pleasing. frick.

I wonder when we'll focus on renovating the quadrangle. obviously we have more pressing matters though

it looks okay right now, but I just think 5-10 years from now it's going to be as big of an eye sore as CEBA is now or Lockett.
I also wish they would have built it to provide more study halls and at least one more large auditorium. Plus the bambo outside the rotunda looks dumb as hell. Honestly you can just tell how they cut corners to make what was a 60 million dollar project to a 50 million dollar project. they should have waited another year to make sure it was done right
