That would be the hope yes

the cops not pursue at all?

Of course you maintain the pursuit, just not a trooper on his bumper

resources

This would be a priority so use assets already on patrol.

All the more reason for police reform. These people would still be alive if our justice system valued lives over a stolen automobile.

I see you're under the impression that there is some sort of gentlemen's agreement between cops and criminals in which they both respond equally to the other's actions.

What you're proposing would probably require the majority of on-duty resources to play this feather pillow corral game leaving the rest of the jurisdiction vulnerable.

I just don't get what point you are trying to make.
If I read correctly, it was a stolen car, so how would the police identify the suspect and where he lives? Magic special top secret DNA scans from the vehicle?

IF they don't pursue, the suspect is still going to haul arse away. They aren't going to call in massive manpower and a chopper to locate this guy while he runs a way, so you are basically telling the animals that stealing is an ok thing because it's likely you won't get caught.

Boy you are a special kind of stupid.

I have been away from this thread for a couple of days. Have the typical players figured out how to blame the police yet?

I'm not blaming the police, its a snap operational judgment they have to make in an instant.

Let me ask you a question, how did this high speed pursuit (for a stolen vehicle) turn out?

Yeah, you are.

Not good. Are you suggesting that cops not pursue stolen vehicles because of this? You mentioned earlier that the cops could get the info on the car and just go to their address to pick them up. How does that work on a stolen vehicle?

3 dead including a 2 year old child is worth a high speed police pursuit for a stolen vehicle?

See this is what happens when you type before you comprehend what you have read, if you read any of it. Go back and look at what I posted. At no point did advocate going to their address to pick them up.

What a great message to send to criminals. If you run, we aren't going to chase you

There are only two things to take away from this:

Those people would be alive if
A. The thief had not stolen the vehicle
B. The thief had not tried to evade capture.

Anything else is basically advocating allowing criminals to do their thing.

The Stolen license plate was just probable cause for the stop

taking off, crashing the vehicle and the driver killing themself tells us there is probably WAY more to this than we know right now

So that's the cop's fault and not the guy who decided to drive a stolen car dangerously with an unrestrained child in it?

I went back and re-read, you're correct and I apologize.

However, like I said earlier, you are operating under the assumption that there is some sort of gentlemen's agreement between LE and criminals whereby they play by gentlemen's rules. The first thing that will happen when these no-pursuit or padded pursuit policies are rolled out is that criminals will exploit them to their advantage as they do with everything else. I'm amazed that some people can make it through life being so damn naive.

Seems likely that this kind of policy would increase the numbers of people who run from the police. It is possible it would actually increase the risk to the public.

Completely agree. And at 35K per year you are asking a police officer to make a snap decision that could mean life or death. Not an easy decision.

People like Lakeboy have their heads up their collective asses when it comes to dealing with criminals.
