The East Village and Lower East Side is nowhere near the "the most affluent part of NYC". Did you happen to notice the graffiti on the buildings? I love all the NYC experts on this site who went there for a weekend or saw the Statue of Liberty with their kids.
ok well show the videos of
brownsville in Brooklyn or the south bronx or better yet
hunts point
Jamaica Queens
East Harlem
or bedford
where are those videos?
east village might not be the most affluent but it's ranked as the #4 place to live in the city for young professionals and a top 15 neighborhood for the city overall.
and lower east side has been pretty gentrified. its known for being kind of a party scene for lack of a better term
for the record I think NYC is great. it is not nearly as great or as safe as it was. still prolly the best and safest city of its size though.

Do people hate on New York City?
Living in New York 2010-2015 making good money and pretending to be 6 foot on tinder was the best of times, maybe ever in all of human history.

There’s a shitton of this in and around nyc. Have you ever been there?

Where in Copenhagen did you see as much trash as in NYC?
I haven’t been to copenhagen, but none of paris, munich, venice, rome, and london were appreciably different than nyc in that respect.

The thing I notice most about Manhattan is that almost everyone out and about are young.

Yea I guess if that’s your snapshot of Europe and Asia, then yes I understand. However, Rome and Munich are much cleaner than NYC.

To be fair this dude is highlighting the most affluent parts of NYC and using it as a sample size of the “health” of the city. Dude seems like a fricking tool.

My family visits NYC often. People, who have mostly never been there, often comment how awful it is there. It’s still my favorite city in the world.
It is a great vacation site. We love NYC

Oh look! Young people sitting in the middle of the street overpaying for alcohol and food. Looks awesome.

I can be on a ski slope from Zurich faster than you can be at Southampton Golf Club

So where would you rank nyc as a city to visit? 30th? Lower?
Posted on 8/27/24 at 12:57 pm to nycguy
The Lower East Side used to be a war zone. Gentrified is a big improvement.

Really? I mean it’s a good city to visit compared to US cities, and we try and go a couple times per year. But, it very far down the list of best cities in the world to visit
I’ve obviously haven’t been to every city in the world, but most of the ones in the USA, and about two dozen outside of the USA.

They must have appreciably cleaned this up (like by A LOT), if this is true now.

We took our kids (16 & 10) to New York City for the first time in March. My wife and I had been multiple times, but not with the kids. We rode the subway many times and I never felt unsafe. Even took it to the Bronx. I know that there are definitely some sketchy areas, but I’ve felt less safe in much smaller cities.

love the city as well. Went over Christmas break this year and it was packed. But damn, I smelled more pot than a Dead or Phish show.
