but nationally, we cannot let this hurt our path to world domination in petro exports or we're going to face a much more difficult path when the prices come back into the range where it's economically feasible

When the smoke clears from this battle for market share the consumer is going to be the one screwed. These governments and multinational companies are not in a fight to sell you cheap gas. This is the calm before the storm and whenever OPEC get the market share it wants 4 dollar gas will be just a fond memory.

This will be a good lesson for these roughnecks on the advantages of a savings account. Of course, this lesson will undoubtedly go unheeded.

Truth.

They are keeping prices artificially low to squeeze out new exploration. When the squeeze is over then the prices will go back to where they want them.

I mean. You're making over a hundred grand a year and only working half the year. Most land based are on 2 weeks off 2 weeks.
That's damn good money but it's a volatile employment field. Don't go off getting yourself into debt hoping that money will be there and you'll be ok.

The oil industry has always been cyclical, and always will be.

When you hitch your wagon to that industry you have to understand that.

The O&G industry has come back from countless low oil price dips and it will the next time (1986, 1993, 1999, 2008)

Oilfield workers losing their jobs and shale not being profitable due to lower oil prices is just a strawman. Oil has to get drastically lower for that to happen. Wages may go down, but they were inflated already. Great article from Fortune:

The people yelling:

tend to be the same people yelling:

"Hell no people shouldn't get my hard-earned money to subsidize their income!"

And yet they fail to see the contradiction in their statements.

Never even thought of it this way but this is 100% correct

i get what you're saying, but one is wanting a particular market price of a good and the other involves government redistribution

so it's not really a contradiction, unless you believe the government owns everything and breaks us off a piece here or there
