Well there's no way to rotate kids in all the same classes with the pathways craziness Louisiana has implemented...but you can at least minimize the amount of time spent in the halls by going from a 7-8 period day down to a 4 period day. That's a start at the very least. On top of that you'll probably have to go to an AB type schedule with the true block system with having Fridays off as a clean/disinfect day but it'll really be a cost saving measure.

Another reason the school plan will fail is social media. The first student or teacher who either actually or reportedly test positive will shut the whole school down.

It’s gonna be a weekly shutdown then.

Yeah, I skimmed through the document released for the reopening plan and they say part of the plan is to expect some students to test positive, but in the real world when 1 student tests positive that news is going to spread like wildfire and cause all sorts of hysteria within that school.

They are already doing that with restaurants. I can't imagine a school with hundreds of kids and teachers.

The La. House passed a bill that would protect school districts from being sued over Covid-19 outbreaks so I imagine that what will happen is that they'll do symptoms checks and enforce wearing masks, but pretty much just accept that they can't enforce the distancing on buses or in classrooms.

The block schedule is a good idea but schools have already made their master schedules and I imagine it's more difficult than it seems to go from a 7 or 8 period day to 4

Smart move by the schools that had the foresight to plan proactively. We know most Louisiana schools did not prepare.

Yeah, didn't they just announce that? That's the largest public school in Louisiana I believe

yeh. I don’t have kids that go there but I have a few friends that send their kids there and they put something on FB about it. I hope more schools switch to it.

This is hilarious. Students can’t keep a pencil from class to class. Good luck keeping a mask on their face AND them not losing it. As a teacher I’m just going to buy a face shield if my school won’t provide one. I am not wearing a mask all day. This stuff is going to be so hard, if not impossible, to enforce that they may as well encourage schools to stay virtual until a vaccine comes along. The person that said it didn’t look too bad clearly doesn’t work with children.

I guess my kids have “breathing issues”

This is another hint that they're going to be absolving themselves of any liability. Within the document guidelines, there's various sample letters for schools to distribute including this one:

Sample Assurance for Families

quote:

As we begin the 2020-2021 school year, [LEA] wants to assure you that we are working with the Louisiana Department of Health and the Louisiana Department of Education to ensure a safe and strong start to the 2020-2021 school year.

Based on information we have at this time, the [LEA] has opened schools in a way that will maximize safety, including:

Staff will receive education on COVID-19 symptoms, as well as preventive measures.

Students who experience symptoms of respiratory illness, including a fever of >100.4, cough, or shortness of breath, should not attend school.
In the event that a student experiences symptoms of respiratory illness or is determined to have a fever of 100.4 or higher, the student must be picked up from school immediately by a parent or guardian. This is in order to ensure the safety of the students, faculty, and staff in the building.

By signing below, the parent or guardian of _________________________ (student name) agrees to immediately pick up their student from school should the school notify them that the student has a fever of 100.4 or higher or is displaying signs of respiratory illness.

This will be very interesting...this isn't something that schools can enforce for one week then slowly forget about like they do some of the other frivolous policies

It's going to be difficult enforcing the mask rule, it's dumb and kids are more defiant and impulsive these days.

But if they don't enforce it, do you realize how many Karens will be piling into the offices and burning up the phone lines? I'd imagine they're going to hire additional personnel just to enforce the mask/temperature policy

My children are now going to "officially" have breathing issues to get out of this wearing a mask bullshite.
