Louisiana is seeing an early crawfish season that is now off to a fast start, according to LSU's Agricultural Center.

According to LSU, above-average temperatures in November and December have helped Louisiana’s crawfish season grow early and fast.

These weather conditions led to many crawfish reaching market size in late December and early January, according to a news release issued by the university.

Shirley said some crawfish producers and buyers have told him this year is one of their better starts in the past five years.

The impending Russian invasion of Ukraine will most certainly end up in higher crawfish prices.

$5.99/lbs. boiled in Shreveport already. Sack of live is still over $100.

Prices haven't been as obnoxious as they have been in previous years this early in the season. I've seen $2.75/lb live and $4/lb boiled though I expect them to go up with the cold weather coming. I feel like this time last year boiled was about $8/lb.

ETA: Lafayette area

$2.99 live is the best I've seen so far.

Anyone paying over 3.50/lb live is a fool.

Houston area crawfish places are hilarious. People pay the $8 per pound and think they’re getting a good deal.
