Was sitting with a law clerk today when the news came out. He interrupted me to tell me that "I'm now a lawyer". I guess I'm happy for him but disappointed that they don't have to endure what we did.

It is a similar feeling as when fraternity hazing was abolished.

That shite allowed the weak in the fraternity and this waiver will do the same for the law profession in the state of LA.

The same argument can be had for those immigrants who entered this country legally and those who did not, and ultimately what it does for the nation.

curious if the LASC ends up disciplining firms for inquiring if an applicant passed the bar or not

Anyone admitted between the last testing and the next real one is going to pretty much be a “no”

Who is more likely to get hired? An LSU Law grad with a B range GPA who passed the bar on their second try or a SULC grad with a C+ GPA who got diploma privilege?

I'm hiring an LSU Law Grad with a B- average GPA and a heavy party history who passed the bar over an LSU Law Grad with Honors >>> Poindexter who got the diploma privilege.

I hope this means I can become an underpass lawyer on the cheap.

Maybe Morris Bart and Gordon will add lawyer ethics and malpractice to their practice fields.

An LSU grad who graduated last in his class and failed the bar 4 times and has three DUIs is getting hired before the president of SLUC’s law review who passed on first shot. Hypothetically speaking.

Maybe not the three DUI part. The ODC would definitely take issue.

I get your point but the new attorneys didn't do this. The blame is on the Louisiana Supreme(ly Incompetent) Court. They're the ones who are supposed to regulate the practice of law in Louisiana. First they cancel the bar exam at the last minute. Then they can't get their heads out of their asses and decide not to require a bar exam at all.

I know man, I was really just kidding.

This, and could still offer a second test just by changing the questions to read the opposite. Same analysis with different conclusion.

I think this is what a lot here are missing....you don't think the majority of these folks want to take the BAR...I'm sure they do.

Cancelling the test like the LASC did was an idiotic move from an idiotic body.

I'm too lazy to read through 7 pages, but what implications does this have for practice outside the state? I'm assuming the other states will deny non-barred Louisiana attorneys reciprocity until they pass a bar exam somewhere.

One good point he made is that the LASC recently lifted the ban on jury trials and so Louisiana citizens are compelled to show up for jury duty but the LASC also decided it's not safe enough to show up to take the bar exam.

There is no reciprocity in regards to the LA bar. If you pass the LA bar you can only practice in LA, it does not carry over to other states

There are some states that admit LA lawyers after a certain number of years in practice (e.g., Texas).

LA doesn’t have formal reciprocity with other states, but some states, like Texas have “admission without examination” rules where you can apply if you’ve engaged in active legal practice in any state for a minimum of 5 out of 7 years. So it’ll be really interesting to see if a 2020 grad can practice in LA for 5 years and then waive into Texas, without ever having taken a bar exam.

This is all one big, avoidable clusterfrick.
