I know this is positive news for LA and won’t be well received here, but the turnaround happening in LA and MS is interesting to watch.

Overall, up from 49th to 32nd.

When you can't read that's starting from a low base.

How accurate are these grading systems?

Louisiana students ranked first in the nation for reading growth and second in math growth on the latest Education Scorecard released by researchers from Harvard University, Stanford University and Dartmouth College.
According to state education officials, Louisiana is the only state where student achievement has surpassed pre-pandemic levels in both reading and math. Louisiana earned the top national ranking for growth between 2022 and 2025 in math, following a similar top mark from 2019 to 2024.

Unfortunately for Jeff I think this climb began before him.
But teaching kids actual class and not transgender biology probably does help.

I think you are joking, but that’s obviously not it. LA has finally reverted to some tried and true methods and curricula in reading and math instead of grabbing at straws that sound great in theory but simply don’t work in practice.
The significant growth is in lower elementary, but I would love to see the success work its way up the ladder.

It is, and many southern states have taken the Mississippi approach. LA, TN, AL have all followed a similar model and it is paying off.

I was joking, and completely agree with your message. Hopefully this works it’s way up the ladder and goes into other subjects as well.

The next step, if the success is to be sustained, is to wake up the shitty parents who don’t value education, see school as state funded daycare, and think that their children do no wrong.
We’ve been near the bottom for so long that I understand the cynicism that will come from many. It would be wonderful to continue the growth.

What is this?
A ranking for ants?

Gee Junior had enough of some girl around fifth grade and told her to frick off. Called to the principals office. He fessed up. I asked what the punishment was. 3 days detention. Okay, that's fine, you didn't need to call me to give him detention.
Well Mr Gee, we're not accustomed to people supporting us when it comes to punishing their kids. I looked at the little fella and told him "when you mess up you're gonna pay the price". Never had much trouble out of him after that.

Am I just some doubting Thomas, or does it seem like Mississippi (and I guess now Louisiana) have some suspicious accounting gimmicks going on?
