It wasn’t Republicans that controlled the state when it was set up to be a shite hole. It was Democrats. Democrat policies and their need to be bribed resulted in all but 2 of the Fortune 500 companies in LA to leave and the oil and gas companies to relocate to Houston.
It was democrat policies that currently continue to siphon off money from projects, funds, and bonds to be spent on studies and pet projects.
And go ahead and look at how many of the “Republicans” in office currently were either democrats in the 90’s, lawyers, or both

And our taxes are much higher than people here like to acknowledge. They always knock CA for having high taxes, not realizing we get taxed to an oblivion as well.
If you are talking about value for taxes paid, I get it... but as raw numbers, our taxes are low (not as low as they were 5 years ago, but still very low).

Properly tax, income tax, sales tax, gas tax, sin tax. None of these are among the lowest in the country are they?

This is a big part of the problem. Most of our "republicans" are well to the left of center when it comes to government spending and taxation, and need for a large state government.
We are a very right-leaning state on social issues, but on spending, we are still very much a populist state, and very much following Democrat policies.

Party politics doesn't mean as much in state politics. They all become a member of whatever party that is favored in the areas they represent.
People from both parties are to blame for the way this state's politics work. Jindal was Republican and I thought he was horrible. Mike Foster was republican and I think he is the most underrated governor this state ever had.
Just because someone represents one party or the other, doesn't automatically make them a good or bad elected official.

Keep in mind that until the 1990s, the Democrats were in full power in Louisiana. Just because you change parties doesn’t mean you can change the traditions and culture of corruption.
They should impose martial law on Louisiana from the federal government to get things right and jail every single one those corrupt politicians.

Don't hold your breath. Look how many of the people in the state still lionize the CROOK Edwin Edwards even after everything he's pulled on them. Absolutely mind blowing.
Oh well, not my problem anymore. I live 1700 miles away now.

Exactly why Louisiana sucks at governance. You get the worse of both parties. Stupid democrat economics and stupid religious right social conservatism.

This. We have no fiscal conservatives in our state government, but plenty of social conservatives. I mean just look at who was elected governor.
As to OweO’s comment on Jindal, the first half of his first terms he showed real promise and began attempting to change the culture, but then he experienced his first bout of adversity, decided to take the easy way, and begin his campaign for president 6 years early.
Jindal had the opportunity to do a lot of good things for this state. But he didn’t and looked to selfish interests. He was terrible for LA.

I'm seriously considering leaving this state after they did that. That was straight up bs. The majority of politicians in this state are so bad even Latoya Cantrell and JBE seem reasonable.

Change ain’t gonna happen in LA.
Dave Treen, Buddy Roemer, Bobby Jindal all promised more efficient government. So did Edwin way back in 1971. So did Sam Jones in the 40s.

You practically do. But the evangelical nuts don’t legislate their morality over us here.

Social justice, evangelism, two sides of the same coin.

I was already in the process of leaving. This is just confirmation that I need to.
