Ah, so they genuinely check to see if those functions work and you have to pay someone to verify that annually?

I've seen a million threads about brake tags over the years I just never stopped to think about what it actually entailed.

The place I usually go appears to only check to see if they can scrape the old one off.

The state wants that money. I get that but for me, the inconvenience is what I hate. So if they have to have the money, make it part of the registration renewal on your vehicle. That way I can gripe when I pay it online but I don't have to spend time driving somewhere and waiting to get it inspected.

Actually pulled the expired one off because it's a cheaper ticket to just not have one on than it is to have an expired inspection
Got proof? For one, fines vary by municipality. Second, every list of fines I just googled in various cities around the state shows No inspection is approx $20 more than expired...

While I'd love it, there's zero chance of this happening. Louisiana feeds on taxes and there's no way they can get rid of one without instituting another to take it's place.

I have a buddy with a glass shop, and they do inspection stickers. He told me it's more of a PIA than the business it drums up. I believe they have to go to a class to be "certified". It involves some extra record keeping that can be audited. And every month, they have to send an employee to the OMV to get the stickers. I don't think they actually get any money out of the deal.

It's a crumb that our elected elite is willing to give back. I guess it is something but in the grand scheme of things is nothing

Inspection stickers have been my only form of government protest my whole life

They were initially supposed to fund road repair and construction but as you can see in Louisiana, our roads aren’t worth a shite. Why should I make sure my truck is fit for your roads when your roads aren’t fit for my truck. frick off.

Got pulled over in gretna of all places once, and when the cop mentioned my inspection sticker, I told him this, and he told me ‘you know what, you actually have a point’ and let me slide. Still got a speeding ticket but he let the sticker slide

How do ya'll with expired tags get away with it? Just last week, I got off at 2 different exits in Tangi parish (Robert and Amite) that had checkpoints. No way to avoid them.

Like many laws in louisiana, brake tags are more of a fee imposed on rule followers than anything else.

There’s little risk of consequences if you just never get one.

i moved to lousyanna two years ago and have yet to get an inspection sticker.

because why? i can check all those things myself. im not going to pay someone to hand me a sticker. this whole "inspection sticker" sounds like extortion and sounds frankly illegal and unethical.

I’m amazed the inspection sticker is only $20. I always assumed it was just to keep beaters off the road but it doesn’t work.

I say make them $6k per year and boom no traffic. Can have checkpoints when coming into the state to pay $1k for driving thru.

No traffic is my stump.

My wife(no pics) works in the courthouse processing traffic tickets.

In Lafourche parish at least, it's a lesser fine

I'm skating on borrowed time, no doubt. Mine expired in 2017, it peeled off in the heat some time in 2020, and I haven't replaced it since. Haven't been pulled over yet either.

I'd imagine if they don't see one they assume you're from out of state, versus just rolling around with an expired one throwing up a red flag.

You can now get your proof of registration on the states LAWallet app. You should see if it’s there

That did the trick! Thanks
