What bridges are you planning to cross?
Are both open in Baton Rouge?

It will be back below freezing by 9PM. All that ice that melted today will be spread out and freeze over again. I have some nice pins in my left ankle from such an event.

No, the “new” bridge or the Horace Wilkinson is still closed and probably will be until tomorrow (although they are still trying to de ice it currently), the “old” bridge 190 is open as is the sunshine

Got a bit of service so I can give an unsolicited update: was supposed to leave ATX today and go to the north shore. Got about 5 minutes out and decided there's no way we could get up or downhill to get to the interstate. Trying again tomorrow. Been without power since 7am, only snacks to eat.

We are leaving Florida panhandle now and driving to Baton Rouge. Will exit at 10/12 split. That should be ok, right? Everything is melted now? We will get there around 9pm though.
You won't even get to the split as of right now. You can get to the city on I-12, you're just not getting anywhere near the elevated portions of I-10. Plan on getting off around Sherwood and finding your way on surface streets.
Having to do that at 9 pm, I hope you were at a shooting competition and are properly armed.

Be careful after dark. Wind did help dry roads after the sun melted some ice, but what managed to melt will refreeze and some roads that are open could deteriorate quickly. You're not going to see it at night no matter how well you think you're looking.

It definitely has faced more than its fair share of trials over the past six months or so. I feel for you folks. It sucks.

Meteorologist Nick Mikulas
Winter storm warnings have been expanded to include Rapides, Vernon, Avoyelles, Grant, Catahoula, Sabine, Natchitoches, Winn, LaSalle, Caldwell, and Tensas Parish. Concordia parish is under a winter weather advisory. It’s possible we see areas added to the advisory, and it’s possible the warning is expanded again. This post is to say that the only change in my forecast is that I might actually increase ice amounts further. There are some pretty extreme model forecasts that seem unlikely, but give a good idea on the high end potential of this system. The other purpose of this post is that I don’t want anyone to get fooled by the sunshine, and melting we are seeing today. Roads will quickly refreeze and become dangerous shortly after sunset as we fall into the low 20s in a few hours. So try and wrap up any travel if possible. I’ll have a parish by parish update later this evening. Light freezing rain mixed with sleet is possible as early as 2:00 AM near Toledo Bend, and could fire up by 3:00-4:00 AM here around Alexandria. I’ll update this evening.

The weather channel has been off by 8 degrees in New Orleans today. 5 pm was supposed to be 40 degrees, it’s 32.

Dang, I knew it. If it gets to 51 tomorrow I will be amazed. If it comes down, it will be snow. It's been cold for several days, but we will just have to wait and see.
