I always thought rolling blackouts were due to insufficient power generation and not due to line problems?
So when they say rolling blackouts in Texas is this because they simply dont have enough power to go around?
In Louisiana, tree limbs are decimating the lines.

How you gonna roll blackout in the BR area. 3/4th of this city has no power?.

It looks like the SPP rescinded the Level 3 alerts for 14 states earlier this afternoon. Do you know if that includes Louisiana?
I know that at this moment, they are not rolling blackouts anywhere in LA. They may still be in level 3, but level 3 does not mean load shed. It means they can request it at any moment.

For anyone trying to make it from Florida back...no problem today. I drove Mobile to BR. Left Mobile at 2:30. No traffic no ice.

Texas doesn’t have the power. It’s a big state and it’s cold everywhere. These blackouts are getting old. Can’t keep the house warm anymore even with the fireplace bc power is out more than it’s on. Oh, and it’s 4° outside. Finally got hot water back but will likely lose it again overnight.

degrees heading to 6 tonight with a six inch pack of ice and snow outside. You can really feel the cold from the wind blowing off the ice. I’ve never felt cold like this in Louisiana.
Just took trash out wearing flip flops and a t shirt in 13 degrees

Thank you again for the info. Entergy’s news updates are citing MISO (Mid Continent System Operator) as their transmission organization. Is MISO an equivalent of SSP or something else entirely?

Great to know. Thanks. Got family in FL trying to come back to Laffy tomorrow.

Four houses at least on our block out of power due to lines down and in their yards covered with ice. Well I think it’d be a miracle to have them all back up and running tomorrow since the conditions are going to be just as frozen.

I disagree. AT&T is unrivaled. They are the shittiest. There are no challengers. frick AT&T.

I now know what it’s like to drive through 3 inches of slush puppy ice. Not fun. Never got above 25 mph on my 10 mile round trip. So odd. Got sleet drifts a foot deep next to the house. Never seen anything like it.

MISO is the SPP equivalent for Entergy and Cleco. MISO issued a directive to conserve energy and prepare for shedding load if called to do so. So most of Louisiana is one step away from rolling blackouts like Texas. Hold off on the dishwasher and dryer. Turn the thermostat down for a while. It all depends on available generation capacity, available transmission line capacity, and the customer load. Tomorrow morning is going to stress the grid worse than today.
