so weird to be 8-12 hours post-snow event and there to still be snow on the ground
got bored today and started "shoveling it" in the driveway, only problem was it was with a literal shovel. After about an hour and clearing about a 12 foot square, I gave up. lol Around the time I realized that it would probably be slicker if there was no snow there when the ice storm comes.

As another poster said way earlier, the government wants to mandate all electric vehicles in the next five years or so. How is the grid supposed to support that
Honest truth, it can’t right now. This was a perfect storm of events and temps. There’s no way to prepare for this in the generation world. Otherwise the rates would be three times what they are now. Imagine if they had to purchase and store enough fuel to generate power at record peak loads year round. It would be such a waste. Instead they rely on forecasting based on history with emergency reserves. In this case there just wasn’t enough gas out there to support this event.
Right now, this is extremely rare, and I hate to get political, but if the gas supply keeps being throttled by the current administration, this will become more frequent.

18 degrees heading to 6 tonight with a six inch pack of ice and snow outside. You can really feel the cold from the wind blowing off the ice. I’ve never felt cold like this in Louisiana.

Cleco can burn some more coal down the road in Boyce.

It looks like the SPP rescinded the Level 3 alerts for 14 states earlier this afternoon. Do you know if that includes Louisiana?
I don’t know if Entergy’s notification was woefully late (per usual) or if they’re trying to not so subtly warn about the rest of this very cold week.

A boat don't forget, oh no, a boat don't forget, I said, a boat don't forget a winter like that.

Perkins Rowe still without power.
Everyone that lives there has basically relocated. No fireplace and I was seeing my breath this morning

It's the same argument for flood protection.
Do you spend billions of dollars on protecting an area for a storm that may or may not come in the life-span of the protection system? Or do you manage for smaller storms?
The pragmatic answer is the latter. You protect and manage for 99.9% of days.

Anyone know if DEMCO in Ascension is included in the potential rolling blackouts?

The weather ticker on local abc is annoying
Had to turn on closed captioning so I would be able to follow along with the Bachelor and not read the weather stuff

Posting for fun & the novelty that it even shows up in a model...NOT a forecast. But the hi-res GRAF model tries to generate a few lake effect flurries in NOLA from Lake Pontchartrain.
Seems highly unlikely but would be the perfect kicker to this historic winter storm.

Thinking it was in the 80's, but who remembers the Red River freezing over in Shreveport ? Think it stayed below freezing for like 30 straight days
