My iphone weather app is showing high of 37, low of 24 and rain for Baton Rouge on Thursday. How close is that to be another event for BR?? This is insane

I just got this text from Entergy. What is going on? They expect us to turn off hot water and turn down thermostat on the coldest night in 30 something years. I don’t think so.
If people don't comply you can expect rolling blackouts like they're having in Texas. The grid can't keep up with demand.

There’s nothing rolling about a lot of the blackouts in Texas, they’re just regular blackouts

I dunno...but I'm willing to bet Jay is the only one to get into arguments on Facebook defending his blown forecast

So is Entergy with their record profits and stock dividends going to reimburse us for plumbing bills that result from frozen pipes because we turned off hot water and lowered temperature setting?
The forecasted low at my house is between 3 to 6 degrees. Last night was forecasted 19 but it was 10 degrees at my house. So temps could go below zero and Entergy wants us to turn the heat down? They need to ensure enough power, in other words do their job that we pay for.

The Southwest Power Pool, which operates the generation and transmission for a 17 state area is much like ERCOT in Texas. They know exactly how much natural gas they have to run the plants now and exactly how much electricity will be available when. When they ask for conservation, they mean it. They know if enough people don’t conserve, they’ll have no choice but to turn off the power to rotating areas. This was put in place to prevent another transmission system failure like in the northeast about 15 years ago. So go ahead and blow it off. Odds are, they’ll be forced to conserve for you.
And for everyone blaming Entergy, this is not them. This is SPP. If SPP says to cut power, Entergy has no choice. You all are talking about their big profits and pocket books, but think about it. Do you really think they want you to conserve? Or do you think they want you to spin those meters to the max?

so weird to be 8-12 hours post-snow event and there to still be snow on the ground
Posted on 2/15/21 at 7:15 pm to lachellie
Build a fire like the rest of us and turn down the thermostat for a few hours.

For sure. I swept tracked snow off my deck and it was like I was sweeping sawdust. The deck boards weren’t even wet.

I know it's not meant to be funny but this made me chuckle having dealt with some work-related issues due to these "rolling" blackouts. You're definitely right when you say many aren't exactly "rolling".
Just an absolute mess around the country right now. Hope they get your power back on sooner than later.

Thanks for the info. I’ve never even heard of the Southwest Power Pool. It’s likely a moot point anyway. With round two projected to be an ice storm we probably won’t have power for a week, if we’re lucky.
As another poster said way earlier, the government wants to mandate all electric vehicles in the next five years or so. How is the grid supposed to support that.
