Are these scores relative to public schools only?
I’m fairly certain that this does not include private schools, which makes it more impressive. I’ve never really thought about it before, but the private school culture of South Louisiana really hampers Louisiana’s education scores in relation to other states that don’t send their kids to private school at the same rate.
ETA: A large portion of high achieving students in all 3 of state's largest metro areas attend private school, rather than public.

Brumley was on the short list to be Trump's Secretary of Education. Lots of progress under his leadership over the past four years. Dude has taken stands against all the woke crap, tightened up discipline in schools and has changed the way we teach reading.

Makes me think the teachers in the state are cooking the books

We give them answers for the questions for aptitude tests, what did they expect?

I just wonder if we really improved or other states just got worse

most of you won't like or agree with these facts, but a good bit of the raise is because the "foreign kids" that are coming in have much better programs now. Some parishes completely separate "fresh off the boats" from schools, enabling them to do better in the overall testing and raising the total scores

That is indeed awesome.
Now we just gotta work on insurance, our poor business climate, infrastructure, healthcare, our trashed out roadways, crime, and poverty

I haven’t done any research on this, but is the criteria for these rankings purely standardized test scores?
I always find it amusing that most of the states ranked highest on this list are also filled with a higher % of population of which are educating the youth on things like men can get pregnant.
Really makes you think

4th graders improved from 42nd to 11th in reading on The Nation’s Report Card, which can be found, here.
Louisiana is one of three states where the average reading achievement in 2023 was above 2019.
More solid achievements from the article.

Are Louisiana schools getting better or are other states declining?

After COVID, no kid fails and everyone graduates.
I’m not buying it.

Louisiana ranks No. 1 in the nation for 2022 improvement in 4th grade reading scale scores and proficiency rates. Louisiana’s improvement outpaced national trends in all four NAEP grades and subjects.
A more comprehensive article: LA DOE eta: this article.discusses the 22 report but perhaps interesting to see upward trend

Not sure where they cherry picked that information, but the link from the Dept. of Education article shows Louisiana is ranked #47 in education.

Have to change a lot of laws to fix this and that won't happen if we continue to elect personal injury lawyers to positions of power

our trashed out roadways, crime
I've got a fix for both. Extremely harsh penalties for violent crime and use prison labor to clean up the roads at 100x the rate we currently do.
And make fines for littering exorbitant.

I cherry picked it from the article in original post but on closer look the DOE article is from 22.

Good. I was expecting this to say we went from 49th to 48th.

Doesnt change the fact that I wouldnt send my kid to 90% of the public schools in this state
