No, but I do know the majority of new cases are from the Lafayette and Monroe areas, with Alexandria also seeing a spike.
Interestingly, these areas weren’t as impacted initially by the first wave. Nola and Shreveport were hard hit, but neither are seeing a second wave spike.
Are these new areas seeing a spike because of restrictions being eased and people are getting out and about? Or is this a natural progression of the virus? The lockdown delayed it, but eventually it’s going to hit everywhere with similar infection rates.
The key will be to keep nursing homes on lockdown. The virus can spread through those facilities like wildfire and is deadly. Hospitalizations and deaths will remain low as long as nursing home residents are safe.

Nowhere in louisiana is seeing a "second wave". Percent of tests returning as positive is still between 4-6%

Hospitalizations up two days in a row. Lock it down. Back to Phase 1. Extend the Convention center. No school, football, or Mardi Gras until 2021

I’ll bet that the state numbers are improving because the New Orleans area is taking it more seriously. The state on the whole is ramping up but the biggest metropolitan area in the state is winding down because they were/are more compliant with social distancing. Covid really wasn’t a big deal case wise to the rest of the state so we are much more relaxed with masks and social distancing. When you put all of this together, the numbers on the whole look fine, but in reality, the entire state could be ramping up with New Orleans making us look pretty good.

It is clearly not spreading as significantly as before, but the uptick can be partly attributed to state-led testing in long-term care facilities, in my opinion. In essence, we’re seeing expanded testing hitting problem populations while the outbreak still loses steam. I can’t speak in Lafayette hospitalizations, but as I stated in another thread, our sister facility has been popped with a handful of cases in the past week or two. It is definitely still around and will continue to be around as long as carelessness continues.

Doctor at my gym speculated that it is folks coming to the hospital for reasons other than covid and then testing positive. The hospital he works at in BR only has a few "seriously ill" covid folks currently.

Did you think the virus gave up and went away?
This number just means that a couple more of the positives got more seriously ill and required hospitalization. We are still well below where we were and are not increasing at the rate we increased early on. If the trend continues we may have something to talk about, but these aren't large shifts yet.

Extrapolates to 5,368 deaths per year, (for scale purposes) Louisiana could expect around 45,000 deaths annually on average pre-2020.
Some of the 5,368 would have died from something else in 2020.

I work for a hospital. Is the state considering patients that are in for surgery or other procedures, who are required to now be tested, as covid patients in hospitals if they test positive?
I think they are, and if so, that compeltely makes the data worthless
