I get why people don't like the 'panic' narrative but he would be a terrible governor if he wasn't preparing for the worst case scenario. He's probably over-projected because he knows he's not going to get the number of ventilators he's asking for. Example, he asked for around 5,000 from the feds and got maybe 500 or so. If he asked for 500, he'd have probably gotten 50. Also, when he talks about putting in orders for thousands with various vendors he has qualified that you simply do not know which vendors will be able to come through and which will cancel the order and go with another state who is bidding more money.
If people had to accuse me of being a fear-monger versus being unprepared, I'll take the former every single time.

The LDH website has a tab at the bottom that shows bed/vent availability by region. No region to my eye appears to be nearly out of vents. While icu beds are seemingly well more than 50% full, you can still see some availability.

A bunch of the back logged positives got tested a second time at the hospital. Many of the cases are counting 2 positives for the same person.
So, what happens in that case? If his first test eventually shows positive. Will they be counted twice? I understand that the health dept should be smarter than that, matching SSNs to results and whatnot. However, I don't trust any health agencies to do anything right these days.

JBE actually pretty much said that same thing about needing 14,000 ventilators. He knew he wouldn’t not get that many but had to ask to ensure he got enough.

You can prepare for the worst case scenario behind closed doors, without fear mongering out in public.
