So just to be clear, if we don't currently live in Louisiana, but spent the vast majority of our lives there, we shouldn't be able to say anything negative about the state, even if they are things that we said when we lived there?

Yes, I do. I said the usage sounded odd. It's clear you're talking about the current political entity of Louisiana, so fine. Still sounds odd. "Admitted as a state" sounds better to me.

That's fair.
I just get annoyed that generally when I make a comment that's even slightly negative about LA, people get butthurt and act like I'm trying to be uppity. And I am definitely on record saying that I love LA and it will always be home, but acting like it's the be all end all of places to live is crazy.
