He’s going to love having his temperature taken/logged along with his screening questions each time he enters during restricted hours, if available.

So...proceeds from the sale of the house + a mortgage payment?

I guess the emphasis is on the “old” rather than the “money” part.

My grandfather is at the Lambeth house. He’s good, but he’s too old to recover shall he get it.

I’d have no issue with this

Please explain to me the difference between me visiting my Grandfather & the CNA who goes home to a trailer full of kids

If staff isn’t quarantined then it serves no purpose
They are still feeding them in the dining room, so residents could be contaminating one another

It doesn’t make sense to me, they could restrict hours & allow only immediate family to visit, they could even give an hour every couple of days
At this point we cannot take him to Dr. appointments

Is he restricted to his apartment? Delivering meals? Staff required to reside onsite? Additional help brought in? I’m genuinely curious how the hell they’re managing day-to-day. The amount of PPE they’re going through has to be unreal.

Hope your grandfather comes through this all unscathed.

You missed the point

They can transmit it to parent who can transmit to patients at nursing home
If staff is not quarantined then there is no reason to not allow immediate family in

To the poster with a family member in Lambeth House
Good luck, I will say a prayer for your family

An email was just sent out to Trinity episcopal school (Nola) parents saying a teacher was “diagnosed” with CV. Scary stuff

Although facility staff is screened more frequently than visitors, I think the most important difference is the training staff is receiving and the precautions being taken inside facilities which families have no idea about.

Communal dining is conducive to spread, yes, but resident screenings will dictate isolation and personal protective measures when necessary. The restrictions imposed are mandatory for us as providers; believe me, it doesn’t make things any easier for us. From a statistical perspective, a unit with 25 residents in contact with, let’s say, 20 total staff (and those they contact outside of work) for around the clock care, is much less susceptible to contamination than the same 25 resident unit in contact with the same 20 staff in addition to each resident’s “immediate” family and each of those family member’s contacts outside of those visits. Think about the exponential implication of threat level imposed when three daughters of a resident all want to visit - kids, spouses, friends, coworkers - how does that make sense?

As part of the notice, we are required to provide alternative forms of communication between residents and families - Skype, community phone lines, FaceTime, whatever. Point is it’s not to say you can’t communicate at all, just that the in-person threat imposed by non-essential visitors is not worth the risk to your family member, our staff required to care for that family member, or the 24 other residents who also have families entrusting the well-being of their loved one to our care. Everything we are doing is to keep your grandfather safe and well and, not to be crude, but it’s selfish to want to compromise that effort at this point with what we know.

I should point out that special circumstances allow for discretion in visitation. If your grandfather was at end stages of life (actively passing), DHH says the restriction doesn’t apply, so long as you’re appropriately screened. Now that’s assuming CDC or the like isn’t onsite to overrule. The notice isn’t available online but LDH news gives very elementary summary: LDH

What my community did today was restrict to one designated visitor for each resident, typically the Responsible Party/POA, so family has a primary point of contact that may satisfy that face-to-face need. Outside of that, they were turned away, some reluctant to leave but most understanding and appreciative.

ETA: The notice was sent to ALL healthcare facilities in LA, including your grandfather’s physician(s). They are operating under the same restrictions and don’t want to see him unless essential. Providers essential for his health (home health, hospice, etc.) are permitted in facilities with appropriate screening.

That was a damn fine and thorough answer. While I'm not local and this particular case doesn't have a direct immediate impact on me, I appreciate that.
Thanks!

LINK

Above link says 9. I read somewhere that the community is receiving email communications which may be where 11 came from. Also read cases were contained to Independent Living portion of the community.

My nieces' grandmother lives at Lambeth and they got her out of there and brought her to Lafayette to be with their mother.

I think, but not sure, since I haven't been there in about 3 years, that she was independent living.

Hope your grandfather comes out of this okay.

I have four elderly friends in Lambeth and even though they are in independent living, they are all over 83 and probably pretty vulnerable.
My father is 94 and down the road in a rival nursing facility. I may not be able to see him for a month.
