Gov. Edwards declared a statewide public health emergency, adding that "it is worrisome" to see the coronavirus spread across the state.

Three of the positive tests were linked to the Lambeth House, a retirement home in New Orleans, the governor said.

The first of the three coronavirus cases coming from Lambeth House was confirmed Wednesday morning when a spokesman for the retirement center confirmed to WWL-TV that the 84-year-old man was taken to a hospital on Friday for pneumonia-type symptoms.

On Wednesday afternoon, Gov. John Bel Edwards held a press conference and said two more cases were linked to the Uptown retirement home.

Lambeth House has restricted non-essential visitors, restricted off-site travel and taken other steps in response to the diagnosis. State officials also urged that elderly people and those with health issues avoid large public gatherings and for everyone to wash their hands and stay home if sick.

While about 80% of people experience mild symptoms, officials said elderly people and those with other health conditions are more at risk. A large cluster of infections tied to a nursing home in suburban Seattle has already claimed at least 19 lives.

These people shouldn't have been out at parades and going to concerts.

That's cool and all, but the real old money just have live in nurses and stay in the multi-million dollar mansions.

You and I don't agree on much, but this is true.

Well off people go to assisted living and nice nursing homes. Money stays in their big home with round the clock nurses.

See, this is where I get skeptical about this whole thing. How did these three old people in an uppity nursing home in N.O. get in contact with this already?

Is this maybe something that has been around already and now that we are testing we see it?

HELLLLOOOOOOO. The spread likely started from Mardi Gras

You just jumped from 2 to 12 cases in two days. This will grow exponentially over the next month if no one follows social distancing protocol.

this is why I think this board is collectively retarded. Public health officials are not making "irrational" decisions to shut down events because they are reacting to 12 cases. It's to be proactive and prevent a catastrophic spread from happening at all.

most of you people think this is some fricking hoax. I'm here to tell you, you are dumb as shite

Nursing homes probably get bats and dog meat shipped direct from Wuhan to save on meal costs.

Especially the ones that are positioned right in the middle of the most expensive area of the state

The Poydras Home and Lambeth House fall into this category

I made a thread stating that the other day. This bunch in here didn't believe it.

I think the Coronavirus has been much longer than thought

I'm convinced it's been here and people have been misdiagnosed as "the flu".

It's popping up too randomly across the nation. Now that there is a test they are finding it.

Old money patriarchs and matriarchs sometimes get moved off to homes when the next generation acquires full control of the money.

Lambeth House has communciated with the CDC and the state health department this morning. There will be additional CDC personnel coming to New Orleans to assist with contact tracing of exposed patients, not just for Lambeth House but in other cases.
