re: Los Angeles municipal health system no longer attempting to contain Coronavirus

I heard from a very reliable source that an outside contractor was charging his hospital $185/test, with a certain minimum (which I don't remember). My friend described their rate as highway robbery.
If a reasonably priced test is $50 or $75, that adds up, especially if its not going to make a difference in treatment.

instructed doctors not to bother testing symptomatic patients if a positive result won’t change how they would be treated.
My PCP told me yesterday that if I were to be symptomatic that due to my age & the fact I am healthy that she wouldn’t test me, just send me home to get over it
I don’t see the big deal, it’s another article written to make people panic

I hate to ask but please explain why people keep referring to it as this? Thanks.
it's the one clear frickup by the Trump admin so it's a meme on the left (including the media)

I mean if it’s not going to change treatment, makes sense to me
Absolutely. The whole “contain” thing in the thread title is the issue. People want to compare South Korea’s isolation time to see how long we might be “social distancing” but South Korea was testing tens of thousands a day and had an intense program to trace and isolate anybody who might have been in contact with a positive patient. Los Angeles just gave up any artificial hope of a similar effort.

I mean it makes perfect sense. Someone having COVID doesn’t change treatment one way or the other. It’s the symptoms that effect treatment

Bet they are happy about those open borders now.

I've been saying the same. Short of needing actual medical intervention, I don't really see the point of rushing out to get tested even if you have symptoms. Just so you know? I don't get that.
Now, I understand the importance as far as research goes to having more people tested. But on an individual level, I don't get it.

You say this as if it was claimed otherwise.

You can't be so stupid as to think this virus was spread by Central and South American migrants... could you?

So does that mean the city will do anything as far as lifting any restrictions that they have in place (I have zero idea of what they have done).

I would have to guess no. It sounds like they're saying that the "treatment" for most positive-tested people is to go home, quarantine, and get better with rest and OTC meds.
So instead of wasting tests to get to this point, they're just not going to test and ask people to do the above anyway. People aren't going to do the above without it being shut down.
* Not saying I agree or disagree with the shutdown. This is just my guess as to why it will not be lifted.

So if that's the case how long do you think they'd really expect people to stay on "lock down"?? I mean it's gonna do what it's gonna do. I'm not trying to sound heartless I promise!
eta: I guess what is "reasonable" when you think about people and jobs and life??!!

This is where I landed a couple of days ago. I understand flattening the curve, but this thing is here, has been here, and is going to stay until a vaccine. We’re not locking ourselves inside until the vaccine is ready, and 80% of people will have mild symptoms. We can do the due diligence that we’re doing now to stem the flood, but at some point, it has to be accepted that there’s a possibility you may get sick, just like there’s always been.
At some point, the economy has to be a priority

The only reason to test is to better understand the epidemiology in the area. Once that is established, there is no reason to test.

Hospitals here are essentially doing the same thing, they only test people sick enough to be admitted

We are transitioning to a more Soviet style economy. More central control and vastly reduced small business ownership. We are trending third world across a range of metrics
