She didn't give money to the school. She gave money to a foundation that bribed school officials.

If the case was being tried in California, this defense may actually work. Unfortunately for her, the judge is from Boston, so she will be the new guest star on Orange is the New Black. Just imagine the new shower scenes.

Yes. And don’t ask how.

Intent —She knew her child was not an athlete but yet paid to get an athletic scholarship. Also, how was the money paid? Paid in cash? Paid to an individuals account and not the schools. All of these things result in a reasonable person concluding that she knew excactuy what she was doing. Pretty sure she is screwed.

Everyone that donates large sums of money to colleges expects something in return and the schools even expect to return the favor. This is nothing new. I don't get the faux outrage.

This has happened for years and like every year was swept under the rug, ridiculous this is even coming up to cover the bigger story of the real issue.

It's not.

Then again, that's not what she did either.

Try educating yourself on what she's accused of doing and then come back to us.

This isn't your typical quid pro quo.

it as a donation and deduction

If she is one of the folks who did this, she is going down. The clowns on here who keep defending her can't seem to grasp she committed tax fraud. Even if all the other nonsense can be explained away, the tax fraud is going to bite her hard.

And since she refused to take the plea deal, they aren't going to play nice now that she is taking this matter to court.

Please list out the actual crimes he committed and not just talking points. Go ahead, list the actual statutes he violated. I'll be waiting.

The Costanza Defense Brilliant legal maneuver

Maybe her lawyer is “Constanza” per se, he’s not actually a lawyer, he’s just always wanted to pretend to be a lawyer. Like he somehow became her legal council, and because she’s Lori Laughlin, she’s never going to be in legal trouble. Who’s it going to hurt.

Depends on where you draw the line. You want season suite tickets at an LSU football game. Will a 500 dollar donation get you the rights to even buy tickets? Nope. Will 5000? Nope. How much of a donation will get you the amount of points you need? Who knows? The people you need to bribe.

Is it bribery to build a library or dorm with the condition of getting your child admitted? frick no. You’re a philanthropist. To do what they did was wrong, but she had someone handle it for her. They have to prove that she not only had knowledge of what he was doing, but that she was ok with it. And they probably won’t be able to prove it. By pleading not guilty, her lawyer doesn’t think so either.

none of this makes any sense, in the legal sense.
