it's some bullshite, brown organic eggs
Based on the egg section of the local Walmart nobody buys these. I regularly see the white eggs almost bought out but the brown ones are always fully stocked
I buy brown ones, usually cheaper and no different in taste.

They went from $6.99 to $2.35 this year at my locale. Unless you shop at Whole Foods, you're egg-agerating.
Not exaggerating at all. I might have to move wherever you live lol. Like I mentioned previously, I go to a couple different HEB’s in west Houston. I check the prices at least once a week.

What policies would cause prices in places like, say, California to be so much higher?
Trump’s racist policies.

Exactly. Haven’t eaten an egg in years. Didn’t bother me when they went down or up. I think about some of those bodybuilders that eat like a carton a day. Yikes

That’s weird, they’ve gone down substantially in SC.

Just don’t eat runny yolks. God damn it people

I agree.
This next part isn’t directed at you…
I’m confused why a lot of people in here are taking my observations so personally. I’m not suggesting that prices aren’t going down where y’all live. I’m just frustrated at the fact that they haven’t gone down at all this year where I live.

Because such statements tend to trigger political snowflakes.

No, it’s because the right has been lied to constantly.
Lied about Trump and Russia.
Lied about COVID.
Lied about George Floyd.
Lied about Biden.
You have to expect some pushback.
Unless you’re a pseudo Marxist. Then you can pretend none of this happened and make some cliched response.

I agree. What does this have to do with the statement I made that he was responding to?

This won't be affecting egg prices much, if at all.
They had to kill off the hens that laid the offending eggs. Anytime there’s a large culling you see egg prices go up.

I meant to say posted those dumbass numbers. My bad.

Hmmm....
And then there is the whole importing eggs deal:
quote:
Reduced Regulatory Burdens to Expand Supply & Lower Prices:
Secretary Rollins continues to meet directly with producers around the country to listen to their concerns and work to find new and innovative solutions to provide relief for their regulatory and financial burdens. USDA has also taken action to reduce red tape for the poultry industry by eliminating redundant worker safety data submissions and extending line speed waivers and withdrawing the proposed “Salmonella Framework for Raw Poultry Products”.
And then there is the whole importing eggs deal:
quote:
As a result, the Trump administration has announced plans to import millions of eggs from Turkey and South Korea. They have also drastically increased U.S. egg imports from Brazil to help meet domestic demand. It's worth noting that none of these countries are the usual suspects when it comes to supplying eggs to the United States.

But, but, but, people have been brainwashed to believe anything organic is SO much better than everything else being produced.
How is this even possible??????
There can be benefit to some standards, but USDA's "organic" requirements are not the most stringent. I don't know the exact requirements, but think organic just means the chickens are fed organic grain (or maybe primarily organic grain). I don’t know what level of heavy antibiotic treatment is allowed. I'm pretty sure the chickens can still be caged and organic (which makes sense in an operation as huge as August here... since they're having to recall so many cartons).
There are other designations like cage free, free range, pasture raised and possibly a few others, which speak to other aspects of the quality of the eggs. And I think there are other orgs... maybe the Soil Assocation (?) that has more stringent requirements than the USDA.
In summary, you have a point: it's true many consumers blindly assume organic means good. It can be misleading, though, and large companies definitely try to bend the rules.
There is, however, potential benefit to getting genuinely better quality eggs... as the healthier the chickens are and more nutritious their diet is, the more nutritious the eggs will be. Regrettably, it just a pain in the arse to know what all the designations mean and get the best quality if you're inclined to spend more for better eggs.
