You can't go wrong in Raleigh either
Living in Raleigh made me wanna live in Charlotte.
It's the ghetto of the research triangle, the pretentiousness of the populace is the worst anywhere in the south outside Savsnnsh and the French quarter. The weather is the worst. The baw culture is weakest here (offroading, shooting, hunting, fishing, etc.)...you still have to drive 3 hours for salt life. Worse concerts, sporting events, shows, and...it's the closest to I95, which brings a bag of dicks.

Dallas has all the big city stuff and is easily accessible without the big city problems.

See lots of Western NC suggestions. Just as a FYI, as someone who has ties to that part of the world. While the rest of the state's economy might be booming, unless your in education, healthcare or the service industries there isn't much in western NC job wise. The area was killed by NAFTA and has never recovered.

1. FW (access to airport hub, Taxes, less rain, etc.) 2. Charlotte (I would actually live in the SC areas south of town) 3. Raleigh (lived here 2 years...sucked)
While obviously DFW is bigger CLT is a pretty big hub as well. Raleigh certainly lags from an airport perspective.
Would also note that Charlotte has a lot more interesting drivable areas with 3-4 hours. Raleigh too.
Taxes… yeah
Rain….yeah somewhat less, though coming from BR any of those 3 will feel much dryer.

No state income tax in TX. I don't know about NC, but that could be a huge raise.
Yeah, but the high property tax is a huge lower.

Unless you are trying to stay relatively close to Louisiana, I think neither state is a good choice. Both will be flaming Blue states in the next 15 years. If you were retiring I think that would not matter, but it sounds like you have 25 years to go.
Texas will have a state income tax long before your working days are over. It is following the same trajectory as California for the same reasons. Democrats are loading that state with South Americans, who even though they are fleeing socialism, they still vote for it 2 to 1.

Tennessee...unless you're Democrat garbage. Then go anywhere but here.

I live in Dallas and my gf (no pics) lives in Ft Worth. Both places are great. If you want to raise a family, Ft Worth would be your best option. Dallas has great suburbs, but Ft Worth is a big city with a small town feel and i really like it there.

I'm part Texan and prefer Texas over N.C., but I suggest not moving to Ft. Worth.
If it's between the cities mentioned, I choose N.C. I was stationed at Camp Lejeune for years; the state is beautiful!

If NC, I would take Charlotte over Raleigh. Also, you could live in SC and easily commute to work in Charlotte.

Due to all my ex's being in Texas, I'll have to pick NC.

Raleigh NC area is booming - good luck finding any houses unless you're OT wealthy.
That said, the surrounding areas have plenty of affordable options - Winston Salem, Greensboro, Pittsboro, etc.
I suggested cities to the West because I prefer mountains over beaches, but there is plenty to the East as well.

There is a beautiful town called Jacksonville, nc. Your wife will love it there.
