The true problem with Asheville is the cost of living, tourists and the fact that you pretty much have to bring your own job with you.

This is definitely accurate. And again, it didn’t used to be like that. Asheville had a huge banking and finance presence at one point, but they left when things took a turn.

I love out in the sticks and wouldn't have it any other way. You moving to Springtown or more Hudson oaks/Willow Park?

Springtown initially, my fiancé has a house and some property there and that's where she works. We're gonna build a house out on her parents ranch in Bridgeport, though, so I'll end up out in the sticks with you.

Even though it's a bit of a drive, I'll probably set up shop in Weatherford. It's a decent size town and good proximity to the Hudson Oaks/Willow Park area with that client demographic. The less travel time shop-to-job, the better. It might not be quite as profitable as Lakeway/Bee Cave here, but I'm hoping it'll still be a good cash cow. I think it's going to be easier to find good employees there, too, instead of Mineral Wells or Springtown.

I have no idea what has happened with a lot of this thread but the wife and I both loved North Carolina. We lived in Burlington and it was absolutely beautiful. Just be aware that coming from Louisiana, the food sucks in comparison. But Cheerwine is legit and Cookout is great.

If you want to live in an urban area then downtown Ft. Worth seems to me to be one of the most livable downtown areas in the country.

Suburbia is what it is in both places.

I have never lived in Texas but San Angelo and even Lubbock seem like under appreciated places to me.

Even Memphis or Jackson have better corporate climates and nicer suburbs than anywhere in Louisiana. Such is the depths our state has plummeted to.

Just moved to Charlotte earlier this year.

It's so beautiful
2.5 hr drive to Asheville and mountains
2.5 hr drive to Wilmington and beach

Myrtle beach and Charleston are 4 hr drive

Savannah is 4.5 hr drive

North Carolina is a great state with really good schools.

You can't go wrong in Raleigh either

Not at his age

Asheville is beautiful but the job market and economy isn't spectacular.

If you enjoyed Franklin and Highlands, Bryson City will blow you away. It’s much more of a true mountain town. Highlands is that way also, but has become crowded. My folks own a place there. If you have younger kids, Great Smoky Mountain Railroad in Bryson I believe will be running their Polar Express starting In November. We’re about a twenty minute drive from the GSMNP as well.

Bryson city is beautiful - always white ware raft there.

Me and my wife are going to buy a cabin next year up in Blowing Rock. We just want some consistency of snow every year - and being close to Banner Elk (sugar mountain) is the best bet.

We’ve had snow every year since I’ve been here, but sometimes only an inch or so and it never stays long. You’ll definitely get good snow around the Boone area. The joke about that area is everywhere you walk you’re walking up hill

I have to agree here. Unless you are a hipster who wants to sell records or paintings, Asheville does not have a lot going on. Lots of jobs to be had between Raleigh and Charlotte. Housing prices are getting a little crazy though.

Neither, head out West but stop before you get to the Left Coast. Montana, Wyoming, Idaho and such.

1. FW (access to airport hub, Taxes, less rain, etc.)
2. Charlotte (I would actually live in the SC areas south of town)
3. Raleigh (lived here 2 years...sucked)
