You might contact the Civil Air Patrol as well.
I cannot imagine getting to CFII is going to be as expensive as you say. My private in a 172 was about $5,000 all in. That was 15 years ago but still.

been in the business for around 40 years and have seen just about every path taken to get to the airlines, the Guard has always been the best route, at 26 you need to act fast because there is a max age of when you're projected to finish pilot training, it's not too late though

ATP's fast track program is $75,995 starting from 0 time. That does not include $6,600 examiner's fees, personal pilot gear, etc. It also doesn't include any costs involved after formal training is done to get the flight hours airlines want if you can't find someone to pay you to fly things.

Flight school is expensive, yo.

You probably can do it cheaper piecemealing it on your own, but I got the impression OP was talking more about a school he could go to.

Dude flying a c-10 or something is way more applicable than flying an f-22 if you wanna be an airline pilot one day.

I was in recurrent training last week with a retired 27 year Air Force colonel. He told me that Pilots that get placed into the fighter squads graduate in the higher % of their classes. Then the next group goes tankers/transport and then rotor. So the elite Air Force guys come from the fighter squads and the hiring boards know that. Also of the companies that still use pilot hiring boards (FEDEX, UPS, Delta, American) instead of HR only those boards are dominated by retired military folks that look out for their own.

CAP isn't in the business of training pilots. They do have some nice aircraft with G1000s that you can use for a very small fee on checkrides if you're a memeber but that's it. You're not going to go from 0 hours to all your ratings with the CAP.

0 hours to CFII is expensive. You have a cert for: ASEL pvt. , AMEL pvt. , instrument, ASEL comm. , AMEL comm. , CFI, CFII, MEI.

doesn't mean a rat's arse to the airlines, especially now, they need bodies, being military trained is a known commodity to them, doesn't matter if you've been flying an O-2 or an F-22, I've had a hand in hiring at my company, I can say with certainty that that is not a factor with us

You can’t edit your post and include a NB4 after someone already is in with the comment.

If you would like to get started on your private license In Central Florida this fall and winter let me know. I know someone who controls his costs with a flight training operation.

Do the Professional Aviation program and Louisiana Tech and you can get student loans. They won't check credit for those, but you will have to be a full time student.

He's begun the recruitment process with several airlines and even with his gobs of flight time in multi-turbine widebodies and proven administrative skills as a commander, he is not a shoe-in to get a position. He likely will, but the point is that even with all of that experience, nobody's throwing offers at him now to ensure they secure his services when he separates from the USAF. He's just another name in the hat.

With the demand for pilots so high, there’s no doubt he’s going to be in demand. His standards are probably just really high, deservedly so. At delta he may be another name in the hat...
