I agree with 777. I went the AD route, and if I had to do it all over again I would have tried to rush the Guard units. You also can look at the reserves, which are kind of in between the Guard and Active Duty.

Some units close to Louisiana (Guard and reserve)
F-15Cs in New Orleans
B-52s at Barksdale AFB
C-17s in Jackson, MS
C-130s at Keesler AFB

Good friend is a commercial pilot now. Got his training at La Tech and first job was as a private pilot for Chouest.
He just recently made the jump to commercial. Had to go through a few months training on Southwest's dime in Dallas once he made the move to big commercial airliners. He also considered a job offer from FedEx btw.

I'd try to get into that Tech program if you don't want to go military.

You really don't want to be a commercial airline pilot.

You want to get your license and work for FedEx. I have probably 20-30 neighbors that are FedEx pilots. Overwhelming majority are former military.
You absolutely do not want to be a pilot in the Army. Fedex will not talk to you if you are/were.
Most are cargo/tanker pilots. I know of only one that was a fighter pilot.

I know some B-52 drivers that went to work for FedEx. No passengers, no having to smile and greet people or say goodbye 150 times when they get off the plane. Just show up, fly the plane, go home. There is always the risk that you will get trapped alone on a tropical island and start talking to a volleyball though. So keep that in mind.

FedEx pilots are commercial airline pilots, just not passenger airline pilots.

Cargo is where it's at, no passengers, no crowded terminals, typically more exotic layovers.
