I don't want to break the bank. Don't care who makes it, names brands or that sort of thing. As long as it fits nicely and looks decent.

$300-$500 range

You are in luck.

Jos A Bank is having a buy 1 get 3 free sale.

They only do this every 5 years or so.

But seriously I have 1 expensive tailored suit and 3 or 4 Jos A Bank suits and they are perfectly good looking as long as they fit you right.

I've found that Banana Republic suits fit well for being off the rack and are reasonably priced.

Go buy a suit that you like and fits decently well. Then take it to a tailor. Its not fully custom, but the tailor can do more to make it fit better.

I got a Joseph a bank suit for around that price. It’s not great, but it’s more than adequate. I will say, don’t expect it to be something you can keep and wear for 20 years...

Won't help immediately but if you can catch Carriages during their sidewalk sales, you can get suits starting at $100. When I had to wear a suit every day to work, I'd go buy a few. Quality was always better than the big box places and they include tailoring.

Has anyone ever not brought an off the rack suit to a tailor? I thought if you bought off the rack it was a necessity for tailoring?

I've mentioned this before here but don't sleep on Chess King. Pretty snazzy stuff.

I think Charles Tyrwhitt might have suits in that range. I have some of their shirts and like them.

I know that CT might have mixed views as there is something fishy about the permanent discounts and sales they promote. It is much like the 20% off coupon that comes in the mail every three days from Bed, Bath, and beyond

No they don’t. They have “Lauren” by Ralph Lauren which is their cheap line
