Making it easier for schools to exact money from their students fixes the wrong problem. They don't need any more subsidization, trust me.
I think it should be used as a reward after making all your payments on time for a year or so. Reward the responsible, not the lib arts kid who works at starbucks

s time for the government to stop backing loans for people who have no business getting a liberal arts degree from a 55k/y school.
They also need to eliminate the darn income cutoff for deducting loan interest. If you make 75k single 150k married you can't deduct. It's like they don't want to encourage higher paying degrees, plus it's double dipping because they still collect my interest.

Getting married this year is gonna put me back under

I took what classes were available in those time slots that counted for the correct gen-ed core.
it's nothing personal man. don't get so mad.

Heck no. Arkansas.
My address now isn't so bad, though. SMU is near and dear...

I'm not mad. I just don't believe you that the only things that fit in your schedule were rec classes. Perhaps things were different at your school, but those were every popular and filled up the fastest at LSU.

Some students choose to take sports or rec classes. That's fine. But don't bitch that you took classes completely unrelated to what interests you professionally when you're the one that chose the classes.
I was forced to take 3 credit hours of fine arts, dancing, or the history of music. I forgot that class when I said earlier the only classes that I took that were useless were Geology and Sociology.
I believe I only had 3 credit hours that were "general electives" where I could choose any class. I had to choose from a list of classes for my other electives, often times none of which had to do with my major or minor.

College degrees need to get harder, not easier.
The key is for colleges to control their costs, and for people to get degrees in useful areas.
Or, go to trade school. My car mechanic, A/C repairman, and plumber make more money than 90% of my friends with bachelor degrees.

Sociology isn't pointless. Maybe as a major, but I guarantee you learned some stuff in that class you still use today.
The only thing that I remember from my sociology class is that there are some gay people who have sex with people who have AIDS, so that they can contract HIV and no longer have to fear that they'll contract it from the next person who they have sex with. They are called 'bug chasers'.

Agreed. This needs to change. There should be no limit at all on this one.

Is this really true? I think I only know two people with degrees and have a totally shite job.

He's probably comparing blue collar guys that either have their own business or have 20+ years experience to guys fresh out of school early in their careers.

I know of a business in New Iberia that has around 100 mechanics making right at or just over 100 grand. They are helicopter mechanics but still, they are mechanics.

Why don't you sign the front of checks rather than the back after all your years?
Since when do new grads or apprentices start at the tippy top without grinding it out?

No but I'm comparing most of my friends who went to crappy four year schools or got degrees in useless crap that they don't use today.
And I know a number of people same age who make 35+ an hour plus over time in trade jobs.
Not to mention a guy in his early 30s who's a diesel mechanic who pulls down 110K a year.
there's money in trades. It's hard work.

Test scores in the US are dropping yearly and your solution is less education? Bold move, cotton.
