too much money at that

This OT myth that 90% of college students are at Middlebury majoring in Women's Studies has about as much credibility as Peej on family crises.

Pretty much everybody I know that went to college is a woman or at least a wuss. Real men don't go to college

A lot of my core engineering classes weren't necessary to do what I do for a living. Should we get rid of those too?

Have you since asked your professors or Institutional leadership that WTF question since paying for it?

See what I mean??

You're the consumer. Parents and kids today are the consumer. This consumption re: secondary education and it's ancillary long-term affects re: costs has to change. Shorten it. Win/Win. Zero net sum loss to the colleges, LNCH. Zero. Whiney Aerobics elective teacher who got the boot? Yeah, they care. But they should have gone into fashion instead I guess.

So you are using the current system as an example yet want to change it

If you think demonstrating your Pollyanna view isn't even shared by the current institutional makeup of higher education is doing that, I shouldn't be arguing with you. I should be asking who lobotomized you.

quote:

yet you say it does

It is not incentivized, no. Show me a single job advertisement where it says that special treatment is given to those with minors or double majors. Show me one where it is a requirement. In your example of international business and Spanish, would it be any different if the candidate was a fluent Spanish speaker, but did not have a major or minor in the subject? No. QED. It is the skill, not the degree that adds value.

quote:

I can only laugh at this point man, sorry. Again these are decisions they need to make on their own, it is their life plan.

An arrogant a-hole not understanding the plight of today's student and the system he is in? There's a shock.

Or, you know, I had to have XXX hours from this general elective group, and only these stupid classes fit my schedule.

bullshite those were the only classes that fit your schedule.

You failed to bring up the other stupid pointless classes like sociology, jock physics, and music lecture.

Sociology isn't pointless. Maybe as a major, but I guarantee you learned some stuff in that class you still use today.

Those are classes almost every freshman at UofA is told to take.

And?

Just because I'm not using them directly in the workforce doesn't mean they weren't important for me to learn.

See what I mean??

Nope.

You're the consumer. Parents and kids today are the consumer. This consumption re: secondary education and it's ancillary long-term affects re: costs has to change.

And the I don't think cutting hours from a degree program is the way to do it.

Shorten it. Win/Win

I don't think learning less is a win.

The colleges need to lose. The bloated costs of tuition need to come down. Cutting hours from degrees isn't addressing that.

just because you have electives, does not mean you need to take "beginning Badminton" you can take something that elevates your career goals or even apply electives towards a minor. Again the fault is on the student, not the system

No the fault is still system, if he could meet graduation requirements by taking electives that have very little relevance to anything likely to be encountered in his life or career why require the 27 hours at all? that is two semesters worth of time and money eliminated. from the curriculum .

Because they're fricking electives. He chose to take the easy way that had nothing to do with anything. That isn't the system's fault, it's his. When the system forces him to take those "useless" classes, and only those classes, then you might have a point.

I guess actually reading my posts that you quoted and replied to is asking too much.

It's time for the government to stop backing loans for people who have no business getting a liberal arts degree from a 55k/y school.

I guess reading your posts, you're right. Unfortunately for your employer, this...

Further proves how shitty of an engineer you are. Your entire core competency is predicated on efficiency. improvement, and measurement-based strategy. You suck at it. Your elective should've been Six Sigma, Professor.

Sorry that your way doesn't address the actual problem. I'm looking for real solutions, not a band-aid.

Yet another personal insult from the guy that doesn't even know what a contrarian is.

Your solution doesn't fix the problem. Colleges will just bump up the per hour tuition and still get their money. You're too busy trying to insult me personally to see your own inefficiencies.
