And last I checked, the majority of the officers who have committed a public crime were held accountable by our justice system. THAT is the responsibility.

Cops commit crimes in public on the regular. Very few are ever even arrested. Maybe they murder in public with more accountability, but there are tons of crimes that don't involve shooting someone.

If they want to be respected they should hold each other accountable and act in a manner that deserves respect. The thin blue line bull shite should be the top of the list of things we need to change about leo

Federal policing is what they want.

Besides the obvious trap of trying to get Trump to send in federal troops so gun fire can be exchanged they have a long term goal. Every totalitarian form of government has their own secret/federal law enforcement, call it Gestapo, kgb, whatever.

Obama hinted at this early in first term "armed and equipped as well as the military". The country dodged the bullet when Obama lost the house after 2 years and his basic lazy nature took over and he largely put the cruise control on for the next 6 years. The progressives realize how bad Obama screwed up and they won't make the same mistakes that he did.

The whole defund the police is among other things the 1st step towards a national all-powerful police force controlled by the elites in Washington. Progressive elites who believe that once they get in power they will be there for generations.

I heard it in late 60's. "Communism works if you do it right".

Well teachers are arrested, doctors are sued for malpractice, and politicians, well unfortunately mostly aren’t held responsible either. Would you be okay with doctors having qualified immunity?

They basically do it’s near impossible to sue a doctor

Last I checked medical malpractice suits were still allowed in LA.

RealDawgs point is that good police are being targeted as responsible for the bad police.

That is like saying the good teachers in a school need to out and chase off bad teachers.

Good nurses need to out and chase off bad nurses.

Good doctors need to out and chase off bad doctors.

The witch trials that this philosophy demands aren't a practical blame for good cops.

The only requirement for cops should be to "not lie" about one another. They cant be held accountable for more than that.

What I meant was it’s near impossible to win a malpractice case. Physicians win 80-90% of these cases

Yet other officers and especially the unions do exactly that time and again.

Silence is complicity. It’s been posted on this board 100s of times that why don’t African Americans speak out against the black on black crime, well if they should speak out so should cops. Instead it’s a rush to say “wait for all the facts” or look at the persons criminal history or “there’s got to be more to the story.”

If you have specific examples, I will stand beside you against the lies and liars.

But outside of that, people are asking for an impractical practice of good police (to be 100% responsible for bad police)

quote:

Silence is complicity

This can be directed at every employer and every job because it is a meaningless statement. You can only be complicit about things in front of you. Otherwise you are demanding marxist witch hunts.

Attorneys have an affirmative duty to report the misconduct of other attorneys:

quote:

8.3. Reporting Professional Misconduct
(a) A lawyer who knows that another lawyer has committed a violation of the Rules of
Professional Conduct that raises a question as to the lawyer’s honesty, trustworthiness or
fitness as a lawyer in other respects, shall inform the Office of Disciplinary Counsel.
(b) A lawyer who knows that a judge has committed a violation of the applicable rules of
judicial conduct that raises a question as to the judge’s honesty, trustworthiness or fitness
for office shall inform the Judiciary Commission. Complaints concerning the conduct of
federal judges shall be filed with the appropriate federal authorities in accordance with
federal laws and rules governing federal judicial conduct and disability.
(c) This rule does not require the disclosure of information otherwise protected by Rule 1.6
or information gained by a lawyer or judge while participating in an approved lawyers
assistance program or while serving as a member of the Ethics Advisory Service
Committee.

How about we start with something like that?

Cops have the same duty.

But you blame all attorneys for not knowing 1 bad one?

There is anger and hate and a desire to eliminate policing because of this.
Wanting more is impractical.

Without going find many examples, here is one that had a 10 page thread on the OT LINK.

No, there isn't "anger and hate" because there are secret, quiet bad cops scurrying around in the shadows. There is "anger and hate" because for decades, law enforcement created a culture in which they protected the behavior of their peers, full stop. Blue code, blue shield, thin blue line. Growing up, Internal Affairs was the boogeyman of every police procedural show. Time after time after time, evidence comes out that for every jackbooted thug kneeling on George Floyd's neck, there are half a dozen officers standing around watching, not doing or saying a damned thing.

Until *that* changes, the quiet "good ones" deserve every bit of scorn they are getting.

Attorneys have to be extremely careful about this because they get sued all of the time about claims pertaining to lawyers

If you're talking about attorneys reporting opposing counsel, that's a different animal entirely and has jack shite nothing to do with their ethical duties

Don't just blame them. Why would they act any different when legislatures, the courts and public sector unions have enabled this kind of behavior from top to bottom? Litigating a criminal case in SC as a defense attorney is damn near impossible, not because of the cops, but moreso because the judges selected by our legislature may as well be cops themselves. I don't claim to know what the solution is, but until the legislature ends the various immunities that protect cops civilly, and until judges are actually unbiased and apply even-handed decisions in criminal cases involving misconduct and brutality, nothing will change.
