What would your boss do if you did a $400 lunch without a client?
If I had to take a client out to lunch usually, I had to list who I took out to lunch. Even then, a $400 lunch would garner much more scrutiny and boy you better have that deal close to close otherwise some business will find a way to get some of that back. An account rep I worked with once had expenses taken out of his commission. Ridiculous.
One place I worked at kicked back a $35 tab I had for a dinner thinking I bought two meals.

To be fair there are some douchebags that take advantage of this and ruin it for the rest of us. I hate those mother frickers.

Well those are just cheap fricks. Been a little pissed when my company got bought out that they limited us to $50 a day for meals. Figured out that Concur averages it for the week for the company, so I eat shitty for two or three days (barring taking clients out) and tend to have a very extravagant meal on one day that I plan in advance.

Also, it’s hilarious that the same idiots who are fine with the poorest states in the nation pumping $100’s of millions of dollars into football facilities are pissed that tech workers can get an almond milk latte at the office
I’m not thrilled about that either even if our alma mater benefits from it.

The only thing I don't get is why he didn't get rid of the perks and WFH first so people would quit, instead of paying out severance packages first.
It's almost like he doesn't grasp basic business practices.

Yes, self made billionaire knows nothing about basic business practices, especially compared to random racist tigerdroppings poster Alonsowdc.

He’ll never say what type of degree he has when he’s been called out multiple times

If the reports of the high costs of living out there are true, they aren't living high on the hog at $186k.
Regardless, they should pay for their own meals during a regular workday.
To get an average it means most we’re making a lot more than $186,000/yr. Even working and living in that area they can afford to buy or make a their on lunch. Basically a reflection in entitlement we’re facing with this liberal government today.

Meanwhile, Disney and Meta are lying off thousands. But Elon is the bad guy for telling people to pay for their own lunch?

Even the ones at the bottom of the totem pole gets their meals delivered to their cubicle by a delivery service. It's normal to see GrubHub delivering McDonalds or a Starbucks coffee.

Working in a hospital lab, we were lucky to get whatever birthday cake was left over from the birthday celebration that every other dept had unusally long times to celebrate.

I’m a hospital employed physician and I have to buy food in the cafeteria when I eat there. Screw these entitled tech worker pricks. I hope they learn how replaceable they are

Given I have a mid-figure 100K salary as well in sales where it is fun and can be measured, nope. Not jealous. I also intentionally turned down a much higher paying job where I’d have to work 80 hours a week for this, so I understand where I stand. I live way more comfortably than a brat working at Twitter in SF making 187K.
negro please

I wonder if those employees reported that income on their taxes?
Posted on 11/14/22 at 7:16 am to udtiger
Wpuld that not be part of your total compensation?

I’m calling complete BS on the expected cost per lunch. I’m a corporate CPA for FAANG but previously worked for another tech company in NYC that provided similar free meals. This was pre pandemic but it was about $35 per employee for lunch

I haven't figured out why people care one way or another about a policy of a company none of us work for.

Huh? He already made the layoffs at Twitter

Are you basing the $35 on a full occupancy rate or 10%-20% rate?
He’s basically eliminating a perk that tech companies have provided, and treating Twitter like the rest of his companies. This perk is completely unrelated to the per diem that some in this thread keep referring to. Most Fortune 500 companies don’t provide free meals to office based employees (some may provide a partial subsidy). Tech companies are now entering the real world-they better get used to it.
