it is amazing how the job isn't sold as much as the work environment/perks/balance is.

Yeah that’s kind of true in the tech space that I’ve seen as he was choosing between Facebook and salesforce and went to Facebook because of that campus. He went to salesforce after, but now nobody is really hiring and he’s chilling on unemployment.

We laugh about work/life balance, but for those in that walk of life it isn't 40hrs and unplug

I definitely saw them needing to get projects finished in a certain period of time but they’re getting paid OT and it’s not like they’re doing that every week all year at least that I saw. I’ll tell you a terrible industry that I worked in was the film industry. Depending on which department you worked in you could really be screwed because you would get paid a weekly amount and there were many weeks I worked 80+ hours and didn’t make a penny of OT.

Salesforce is one I saw come calling. Seems like a really good place to work for.

No doubt the perks fall to the wayside when times get tough. O&G boys have seen the same over the years.

The work environment is crazy though when it comes to some of these tech companies. And employees have zero loyalty when the perks fall off.

Given my money that Elon gets goes directly to space travel and saving the species, I’m pretty fine with that. I’m way happier when my money goes to him than to the Feds.

I think you guys are misreading this. It’s a cafeteria, which means relatively set costs for staffing, utilities, etc. I don’t believe he was saying that the meals were worth $400. I believe he was saying that, because of how few people were eating in the cafeteria on a daily basis, the cost to run the cafeteria, obviously also including the cost of the food, was coming out to roughly $400 per meal served.

Honestly it’s pretty telling and very sad how many had this concept not run across their minds when reading this story lmao.

I guess I can’t say I’m surprised that people from places like LA, MS etc think the average silicon valley lunch is 400 per person.

But Elon has been owning the libs, he’s not grifting at all. He is a cool billionaire!

Just wait until Elon bankrolls something we all hate, the guy believes any thought of his is the only correct thought.

Oh yeah, the team that’s fine, but $50 a person is more reasonable than $400 that these brats received. $50 a person is what a good organization that expects you to earn it. There’s no way a daily lunch should cost $400.
man some of you he’s clearly saying the cost per meal ended up $400 being there’s not many people in office. Think staffing cafeteria, utilities, food and waste, exp. The overhead of running a kitchen for a handful of meals.

While I try not to underestimate just how strong the ingroup/outgroup ungabunga manages to be, I'm still a bit surprised. Michelin starred restaurants practically never cost $400 per person for dinner, much less lunch. Last I checked, 11 Mad was like $200 per person for lunch

I mean, I’ve done that on many occasions. Went to City Grocery on Friday, and it cost that much.

We were all closely tied to our P&L and all dialed in to making the bottom line grow. Very little waste, we could have flied first class, but we didn't. Generous bonuses made everyone vested

My bonuses kinda work this way. I get a certain % of every deal I touch, more if I drive the deal from start to finish and do physical onsite work. I get to book my own hotels and don’t have a per diem (a hard one at least,) but a certain amount starts taking out of my bonus. Good incentive to keep it cheap and get more money.

Maybe not everybody’s cup of tea but it’s been pretty beneficial to me till Covid killed my travel.

Shitty management would be my first guess. If you have an underling only putting in 8hrs of work to do their job they need more of a challenge or you are good because they are fulfilling the requirements of their job.

I don't know why people are so amazed by this. Think a bit.

And then Musk spells it out a bit better (and is posted in this thread).

Spending $13million per year on the cafeteria at Twitter HQ. On average only 10% or so employees ate in the cafeteria as most were never in the office.

Does it make more sense now?

Outsourcing catering likely makes more sense in this case. If you are maintaining a full staff to feed a handful then it doesn't make sense. How much of that 13MM were office catering for meeting and stuff that will now be sourced elsewhere.

Now, if you force everyone to come back in the office then remove the amenities what sense does that make on the other side.

frick all these Silicon Valley dildos. They are getting a dose of reality for the first time ever, their companies can all go under tomorrow and it wouldn’t matter one bit.

Yet, the commodities that keep people alive are being bashed 24-7 by this dipshit administration.

What’s your main issue with Raytheon? Shouldn’t you be more concerned about the Politicians, like Cheney who made millions off the war machine?
