Pretty embarrassing for Americans to go over there and act like this. At the beginning I though he might be respectful but it went downhill from there.

I agree that putting together high quality 10-15 minute vlogs takes a lot of time to do well. However, daily vloggers generally are not making quality productions and have a “style” that they can replicate fairly easily.
For example, they almost all use “a few moments later” or “2 hours later” transition and they generally cover the camera lens to roll to a black screen as a transition. These are super simple, yet effective ways to cut between scenes.
I did find a guy who films with his wife who has legit film talent. I think he studied at FSU which is known for its film program and he was famous on Vine before it went under. He did a video for his wedding that looked like a Hollywood film. I’ll see if I can find it as an example of someone with real talent.
From what I can tell, the real money comes from selling merch direct to consumer. They are also very aware of YouTube policies that will screw them out of ad money. If any music is ever playing in a scene they either stop filming or ask the person to quit playing so that they don’t run into rights violations. They also beep out any cursing and don’t show any nudity because it will flag their video to 18+ and a large portion of their audiences are high school or younger.
They also do a good job of promoting across all social platforms which almost always send their followers back to YouTube as the primary place for content.
From what I can tell, it’s a pretty tight knit community because they basically film content together across different channels. A lot live in southern CA and there is tons of cross-promotion amongst not only YouTubers but also businesses (e.g., car shops that get millions of impressions for working on their cars).
The other thing they do consistently is create music videos for original songs....especially diss tracks against other YouTube stars. They also do reaction videos to other songs and before you know it there is a viral system of videos that bounce viewers back and forth among all of the content producers. It’s actually pretty ingenious how they leverage each other’s subscriber bases to grow the exposure of other people’s channels.
That’s all I’ve got...this was a rabbit hole I recently discovered and thought, “WTF am I watching....wait, this person is 20 and has 12 million subscribers? How is this possible...”

Saw a video on History channel or something. Whole documentary. I stopped watching the idiots video when they cut to him freaking out in the woods and acting like a douche. They never got to the signs. They apparently have signs saying different supportive messages and suicide hotline numbers etc. the show I saw even said camping was forbidden in most areas. Just so they can clear it at night. Because anyone staying the night has 50/50 shot they’re suicidal. The show followed the Park caretaker. They came across a guy in a tent they thought died but he was just sleeping. Told him he couldn’t camp. He apologized. When the guy asked if he needed help he got real vague and evasive. He was obviously there to kill himself just working up the nerve (for lack of better term).
The parking lot also had a couple cars with dust caked on them. The park manager said was always what they look for to know somebody never came out. They ended up finding I believe a site of a suicide. Rope that had been cut and ground beneath disturbed. It was an interesting video. The park manager said people often come into the Forrest and remove them. Many different groups and social workers and aid workers.
Perfect storm for this YouTube tool to stumble onto a guy 100 yards away from the parking lot who had obviously only done it hours ago. The documentary crew did proper research and spent days there with the best guide and only found a couple “campers” and a cut rope.
